Aortic Stenosis & Aneuyrsm Repair
I have an operation scheduled this week, and I'm very anxious and scared too. I was wondering if anyone can tell me about their experience.

You’re gonna be just fine. You’ve got this. I had this surgery in 2015. I am sitting here in my kitchen making lunch as I write to you. I feel better than I ever felt in my life. I was 50 when I had the surgery and I’m 61 now. If you have this surgery in a scheduled fashion, it is much easier than if it happens emergently. You’re gonna be fine. Obviously there’s gonna be some incision pain and several weeks of recovery, but you’ve got this. If you want to talk more about the specifics, feel free to post back. Sometimes the waiting is the worst, but if you’ve got a surgical team ready to go that has made a good plan for you you are in excellent shape. You’re going to be fine. Here is a picture of me last week at UCSD La Jolla, where I had my surgery in 2015. Couldn’t be happier to be bringing my daughter for a college tour there. Peace.

Thanks. I find I'm constantly trying to calm my own fears, and boy, is it tiring. But it's nice to hear success stories like yours. It truly helps.

1 ReactionTrust me: I dissected suddenly and emergently. I had NO WARNING AND NO IDEA I had an issue. You don't want that. It was a nightmare. You on the other hand have a diagnosis and a plan. I will say this: surgery on your terms with a rested and prepared team is a helluva lot better that a sudden dissection. You're going to be fine. I promise. I want you to come back and post to the group after you've finished your surgery and you're up for it. One of the best things about surviving a sudden dissection is talking to people like you who need reassurance. I wish I had had it but I went from a tearing pain in my back (the dissection) to waking up weeks later from a coma. That's not what you up for. You have a complete diagnosis, understanding, a surgical team ready to care for you. That's dynamite. Talk to you in a few weeks after you're feeling up for it. We're all rooting for you! Peace.

My husband had open abdominal aneurysm repair Feb 6...2 days in intensive care and then 4 in vascular recovery room. Everyone told us it is so much better when this surgery is scheduled and not AFTER it ruptures or leaks . My husband took the attitude of Thank God they found it and they can fix it. I understand that the waiting is very stressful..try to deep breathe and keep busy to occupy your mind so you dont go down a rabbit hole. I am surprised how well he is doing. Very tired....not much of an appetite yet..but so happy to be home and we were told this is a permanent fix so one and done ! I agree you will be fine and just think after it is repaired all that anxiety of worrying about it will be gone. Good luck yo you ! You will be fine.

1 ReactionAWESOME! Give him my very best. Tell him it gets better very day, but he may be 3-6 months from feeling like himself. Peace.

That sounds like a real success story. I’m glad to hear it went well. And thank you. It means a lot to hear how it went for others.
@moonboy my surgery is scheduled in March. Same thing. Thank you for this note as I find it very reassuring. 🙏

My husbands surgery was scheduled a month out and that was horrible for us..the anxiety..the waiting...but we eventually learned to cope with it. We started cleaning out the basement (he didnt lift anything) and straightening out our closets and just doing anything to keep our minds occupied. Now that it is over and he is home recuperating..we have a nice clean basement and closet...ha ha
Wishing you all the best and you know what? Before you know it you will be looking back on it. We can't believe it has all ready been 10 days since surgery.
Warm thoughts your way
