Anyone with IgA Nephropathy with kidney transplant?
Does anyone had a kidney transplant with IGA nephropathy as a root cause? I struggled with IGA for 12 years and now on Dialysis, considering the kidney transplant in Next six months (living donor). Appreciate if someone with the similar condition shares the experience. Especially how are they managing IGA condition post transplant and any preventive treatment/therapies to prevent a recurrence of IGA.

I had a kidney/liver transplant 1 yr & 3 mo ago at Loyola hospital in Chicago. I'm 71 yrs old. I had a kidney biopsy 2 mo before my surgery & it showed IGA nephropathy. I previously had Wegeners disease that affects the kidneys but in the biopsy it only showed IGA. So, I was never treated for IGA since they only discovered it prior to surgery. My labs were bad for my kidney & liver. None of the doctors said anything about the IGA post transplant. I should ask my nephrologist during my next office visit about that. I had a heart failure donor kidney. My kidney didn't work after surgery due to ATN (acute tubular necrosis) so I had to have dialysis for 3 months post-op. Then out of the blue my donor kidney started working! The doctors said the kidney tubulars can repair themselves. Yay! I know how hard it is to be on dialysis 3x a week. It would definitely be worth getting a transplant instead of going to dialysis. I did have a few complications but it was worth getting an extended life! I had a chest tube after surgery, a seroma (I think due to obesity) by my kidney incision, fatigue, weakness, hand tremors, & nausea. These only lasted about 3-4 months. In my recovery I improved at 3 month intervals. Now I feel great! No more nausea, fatigue, weakness or tremors! It takes time after surgery to recover since it is a big surgery. My surgeon told me after surgery "You have to be strong"! Good Luck in your decision! Best Wishes!
