Anyone using ventilator to control CO2?

I have COPD/Bronchiectasis Overlap syndrome, never smoked. Started feeling out of energy and had CT that showed air trapping back in 2024. Pulmonologist didn't seem too concerned so I wasn't either, but she did prescribe O2 at 2 L bled into my CPap and also as needed during day. Fast forward to January 2026; I really thought I was in final stages of COPD and in an exacerbation with bronchiectasis. Lots of mucus, coughing. Needing 8 L O2 in CPap, on 6 L constantly during day, so tired I was afraid I'd fall asleep driving, wrists occasionally jerking 90 degrees, up 6 times a night to go to bathroom, eyes seemingly improving in distance vision, breaking out in cold sweat periodically. Pulmonologist said go to ER so I called ambulance. Lost consciousness in ER and woke up in ICU with a BiPap on my face. Came home 28 days later with a ventilator to use with 2L O2 bled in whenever I sleep, nap. I feel I've been given a second chance and I completed 28 days of pulmonary rehab this summer, joined a Bronchiectasis support group and started checking out this forum daily, but I still feel so alone and vulnerable. Pulmonologist tells me the ventilator will hold back the CO2 but I am full of fear and doubt. Has anyone else gone through this?
