Anyone using new Phonak hearing aides and TV connector?

Posted by Don Higgins, Volunteer Mentor @dsh33782, Apr 12, 2023

I've had Oticon hearing aides for over 4 years but when I upgraded from iPhone 6 to iPhone14, the Oticon TV adaptor quit working. I then upgraded to new Phonak hearing aides and new Phonak TV connector which all work great. The Phonak app shows battery levels, and its great to have rechargable batteries. With the new hearing aides on, I can talk with my wife Charlotte 2 rooms away now. Previously we had to be the same room. Have others had such improvement with new hearing aides?

Glad to know about your success with Phonak. I have Resound that are 4 years old and I am having a lot of trouble hearing, especially in restaurants. How do they work in a louder setting like a restaurant?

I went out to eat at Bonefish last evening and the new Phonak hearing aides seemed to work well. I could hear other person across the table and the background noise did not seem too bad.

That does sound like one that I might want to try. What model Phonak is it?

I asked my audiologist if Phonak were better than Resound & she said no difference plus no difference in price. Both are $1500 a pair so I ordered the resound which I’d been trying out a loaner pair.
And $50 extra a pocket size device for some controls on my end. I’m getting them in May.
Idk if you have tinnitus but it’s in the same ear as the deafness. I can’t hear anything much on that side. glad yours are helping you

$1500 for a pair of Oticon, Resound or Phonak hearing aids is a very good price. It's important to know, though, that proper fitting is the key to doing well with any brand of hearing aids.

It's very important to have sufficient trial time to test out a new pair of hearing aids. Some providers allow 30 days, others a bit longer. Regardless, it's so important to wear the hearing aids and try them out all the places you want to be able to hear well.

The skill of the fitter is extremely important in setting hearing aids to your individual hearing loss. Did your provider use real ear measurement when testing you?

Thank you for asking. I’ve been to quite a few audiologists in recent years and happy to say this young lady is awesome. She’s gone the extra mile in every way. Been working with her for a several months & with Resound loaners. She did take a mold of my ears but I didn’t like those at all they hurt my ears. I forget the brand. They had little antennae sticking out lol. She sent them back .
My L ear hears pretty good but has hypercusis sometimes. The R ear has Menieres/tinnitus Hard to explain but I don’t think the R hearing aid helps me hear as much as it allows me to tolerate tinnitus with brown noise most days.
If they really help me hear I should be able to know what direction a voice is coming from. This is the 3rd time I’ve tried. None so far have improved my hearing much but at least these somewhat help with tinnitus unless it’s a real loud day then forget it -I stay home & deal with it best I can.

What?? $500! Shoot I coulda shoulda kept looking for another provider but I had paid $1800 at Costco for my 1st pair 4-5 yr ago. Not rechargeable. Didn’t help , they sucked and/or I just gave up for awhile & wore none.
These new ones are thru my medical providers at an outpatient clinic meaning I have a $20 copay every time.
You got a great deal.

Actually based on yours & another comment on Phonaks I wish I’d tried them but she told me there was little diff compared to what I’m getting.
I’ve got to give this whole thing a break I’m just worn out from all the ways hearing loss has affected my life and mood - with tinnitus there’s a good day every now & then otherwise it’s an impairment but it could be so much worse so I’m thankful.

I was way off on the price for new Phonak hearing aides. They cost about $5,000. Not $500. My original Oticon hearing aides over 4 years ago cost about $7,000 so the new Phonak hearing aides which are better did cost less.
