Anyone tried Votrient (pazopanib)?

Hello....my Wife has been on Votrient 13 months. It has helped in her situation with leiomyosarcoma. Each patient will have different reactions to Votrient and different outcomes. The best aspect of this medication is it's not chemo!! There are possible impacts on liver function. Most patients report manageble side effects. One important step that may help is to start on a low dose...200mg....for a short period. Gradual increase in dosage is also helpful. It would be best not to jump right to the "recommended" dosage of 800mg, as that isn't well tolerated by most patients, and has very pronounced side effects. Most patients find success at 600mg....but go slow in the build up. Some tumor shrinkage may occur but that depends on size and location. The main strength of this medication is the reduction/elimination of tumor blood supply. This may prevent tumor growth. Also, don't expect immediate success. It may take some time for your Dad to adjust to the medication. It should be recommended to avoid alcohol consumption to give the liver a better basis to process the medication. While the listed side effects on many sites look scary, they try to cover all possibilities, and most patients dont experience a fraction of what's listed. I am dealing with soft tissue sarcoma stage 3, would votrient be an option for me to stop the reacurrance of these tumors. Currently in my lower leg, but they have been reacurring after surgery, now for the third time.

I am so glad I came across this. I have Leiomyosarcoma and feel so alone as it’s hard to find others that have it. I was recently put on pazopanib as all the other heavy duty chemos were either not working or I hit the lifetime limit. Basically for me the hope is this will work long enough for another treatment or trial to show up on the scene. By body handles chemo exceptionally well but the tumors are not responding. On this new one the biggest issue is blood pressure is skyrocketing and they are having trouble keeping it normal and also I can not be on omeprazole alas it interacts and so my gerd is quite out of control. Otherwise, so far, very few symptoms.

My cancer team at Mayo has decided to start me on a chemo treatment called doxoil to hopefully shrink the the tumor that has recurred in my left calf, plus the new tumor in my left groin area. Has anyone out there experienced treatment using the doxoil chemo? My treatment will begin real soon.

@thia1125 Hello.....my Wife has leiomyosarcoma and has been treated with Votrient(pazopanib) for about 15 months. Her side effects are mainly GI issues and hair thinning, plus an altered sense of taste that varies. There has been some variability in her liver function numbers, but that is stable currently. We're pleased that this medication has brought her "stable" readings on her scans. She found success by slowly increasing her dosage from 200mg to 600mg at present. Not many find success at 800mg because of increased side effects. As always, each patient is unique and will have different experiences with medications.
