Anyone think that it’s no longer long Covid? just permanent damage?

Posted by ericy210 @ericy210, Mar 26, 2023

It’s been 10 months since I was a happy, successful, talented businessman and family guy with a nice suburban life.
Now I have trouble with basic memory and processing.
I’m in a couple of clinical long Covid programs, had tons of tests, and am on dementia meds and adderall to repair neural connections and help me focus at work. I’m tired of all the neurologists and endless testing.
I don’t even know if it’s meaningful to say I have long Covid. I’m just screwed up, like someone in a car accident who will always limp or is missing an arm or is paralyzed.
It seems I’m left with “managing the symptoms” until brain fog, dementia, Parkinson’s, traumatic brain injury, MS, and other related brain ailments are magically cured.
I’m trying to accept I’m a new guy now. I’m stuck trying to pretend I am the pre-Covid guy and just being a blurred xerox copy of myself.

@mrwolf hi, I can’t say that I have accepted my symptoms as permanent because we don’t know if it is. I have read so many reports on the subject and the truth of the matter is that they don’t have a clue, some will admit that they don’t have enough info yet or it’s a work in progress. The problem is we have to cope somehow with this until something better comes along, the research is going on constantly.

I’m my case l know is permanent damage. The MRI, Encephalogram and Evoke test showed abnormal function of the left temporal lobe and frontal lobe. The test results are compatible with my symptoms l never had before. Brain fog, slight short term memory, insomnia and right hand tremor. This retired me from practicing orthodontics. There are no drugs to fix brain damage. At least l can function for daily life, although l battle with the tiredness of the inability to sleep and rest. I still exercise, eat right, take supplements and push my self. The Ambien is the only consistent med l take now, but is hit or miss. Accepting the situation has allowed me to get off anti depressants. Until stem cell research and usage for treatment, l don’t see pharma curing anything. That won’t happen in my lifetime.

I sympathize with your situation. I am sure you want facts and data and not sympathy though. I know I do and getting some facts is not easy. I hope you will continue to update all of us of your progress.

Can you describe what you are experienciug and what you have done about it?

I have wondered the same thing. How do we know it is long Covid ? Could it be something else?

I don’t really care for labels- they over-simplify things.
In my own mind, I don’t think I’m suffering from long Covid. I think Covid f***ed me up and I have to make the most with what I have. It’s kinda the same as any injury. Maybe it will “get better” over time, maybe not. One day at a time. I try to remind myself to enjoy the moment I am in and enjoy life.

I wish everyone here healing. My personal thoughts stem back to my experience. I think I am a conundrum to all my doctors. PCP, Rheumatologist, and Neurologist. In 8/21 got my 1st covid vaccine got my 2nd 9/21 exactly 3 weeks later felt nauseous, went to bed early, got up a bit later and puked my guts out. Got up the next morning and felt very unbalanced when I was walking. Went to pharmacy and got a quick covid test it showed negative. Went to my PCP in Nov 2021 and was telling him how I felt and he ordered a carotid artery scan and an MRI. He called me to come to his office after he got results and told me I had had 2 small strokes. I was completely shocked. Then on Jan 21, got out of bed and told my husband I actually think I am feeling better. Later on the day he started feeling bad, chills etc. Next day still chills but said things did not taste right. Took him for a covid test, 4 days later it came back positive, I got sick that night. Fever, aches and headache. Went next day for covid test, mine came back negative. I had been going to my PCP for fatigue and we were trying to figure this out before all this covid crap happened, now I am really messed up. I had a serum antibody test and it came back positive for having covid. Mr Wolf I know exactly what you mean about not being able to fix the brain. I am 78, but dang I used to do all sorts of stuff and can't do crap now.

What have you tried and what kinds of doctors have you seen? I went to my GP, a neurologist recognized in the area, eye doctor, and now soon a couple ENT’s. So far no idea what to do except therapy, which I have done repeatedly with no help. I am looking for some fresh ideas.

You have to find a FUNCTIONAL neurologist to heal your brain (NOT a regular neurologist) and a holistic or functional nutritionist to heal your gut health which helps heal your whole body! Go online and look up the work of Brain and Spine-Dr Harrison Salisbury in West Jordan Utah…he is on instagram and YouTube. He will do a free 15 minute call to help you find a functional neurologist near you or possibly go see him…you can see how he’s helped people on his instagram and YouTube. OR just try to find a functional neurologist near you. You will have to pay out of pocket but worth every penny!

I am on a strict diet made just for me after these docs did stool, hair, saliva, blood and generic testing. They found a lot of things wrong with me internally but I’m on the road to healing!
