Anyone on GLP-1 and have Smouldering Multiple Myeloma? Benefit?

Recent literature is suggesting there may be a beneficial side effect for some SMM patients who also take GLP-1 drugs for obesity or diabetes.
Anyone have real world experience?

Would you qualify for GLP-1 usage? Have you brought up the topic with your oncologist?

I'm following this because I have both SMM and PMR. While on prednisone I have added 10-15 pounds to my already moderately obese frame. I'm a 73 year old man who is 6'2.5" and hovering between 248 and 253 lbs. I know some of the recent weight is prednisone water retention but not all of it. I'm unable to exercise regularly until my meds are coordinated for both PMR and SMM and I'm finished my fast taper off prednisone. Even then I don't know what I'll be able to do.

Thanks for the information, and discussion leads. Seems like mixed results and a diversity of opinions from the Drs! I probably do not quality as I do not hav diabetes and am only moderately overweight with a BMI of 27-28
I will be talking with my hematologist/oncologist any way soon. Been on plant based diet almost 2 years, 80 years old don’t either MGUS then SMM 4 years ago. No medication. Numbers are always the same. No changes ! Biggest problem is the associated anemia and lack of energy!

I have SMM and am 65. I’ve lost 20 lbs since diagnosis a year ago. Partly intentional as my readings suggest weight does play a part in this. But I also struggle with atypical fatigue that I’m convinced is related to SMM. My MM specialist said many of her SMM have fatigue. I wonder if you are getting enough protein which is necessary to build muscle and we know muscle burns more fat. Maybe your doctor could advise on the protein you need too much can be hard on kidneys) or make a referral to a dietician? I do think movement and maintaining average weight are critical to keep disease progression at bay. All the best.

Thanks, good advise. Plant based diet is definitely tricky!
