Anyone here struggling with severe Post- Covid hives?

Posted by jbljax @jbljax, Feb 5, 2024

Please share experiences on successful treatment of rash and hives from Omicron.
My dinner-plate size lesions of urticaria are not responding to anything-- Benadryl, Zyrtec, Pepcid + zyrtec ( 25% of skin receptors are H2), Singulair ( stabilize mast cell histamine release), topical steroids.
I'm afraid of systemic steroids as am concerned covid could reactivate.. Still may need to go down that path.

@jbljax ,
I did have this post covid, but it went away suddenly and so far has stayed away. I have other symptoms, but the skin issues aren’t bothering me right now. I tried a number of things at the time, but nothing really helped. So sorry. I know it’s miserable. Hope you find a remedy.

I currently have urticaria and had Covid four years ago and two years ago. I know how miserable this is. I read that some people are getting hives/urticaria/histamine intolerance/mast cell activation syndrome soon after Covid or much later. I am on a low histamine diet, anti inflammatory diet and am doing a lot to support my immune system. Below is an article that helped me and my naturopathic doctor is having me do much of this regimen. I also use Claritin (loratadine) which I learned can be better than zirtec for hives. And an antihistamine that is stronger that benadryl called hydroxyzine. It is helping the hives come under control.

I hope you feel better!

I had Covid in December 2021, Never had hives until 1-2026 They are still present and annoying as can be. I have been to multiple doctors in all fields. Nobody seems to know what the cause is. I went to a holistic doctor and they think it's from COVID. I take Allegra every 4-5 days and a lot of supplements. It's not worse but not better I don't know what to do.HELP!

I too have occasional spots of intensely itchy hives. I heard on a Peoples Pharmacy podcast with a dermatologist that you can try the nasal spray Flonase on your skin itchy spots. I thought it helped.

@quickstepper I have the same intensely itchy spots only on my legs. They seem to run in a line down a nerve. I tried all of the Dermatologist creams and cortisone lotions to no avail...but over the counter Canadian colloidal oatmeal cream works to prevent them. I think it is because long covid has almost stopped oil production by my skin so it is very dry. Slathering on the oatmeal cream everyday keeps the spots away for me.
