Anyone having any luck with treating PMR without any specific medicati

Posted by lindaadele @lindaadele, Aug 1 1:21pm

The reason why I’m asking this question is that no medication’s for PMR have done any good for me except to make me feel horrible and the pain was always still there. Some of the medication‘s worked at first and then they did not work. meanwhile I always felt not so good. Any information you could give me would be much appreciated! Thank you

My rheumatologist hasn’t put me on prednisone yet as my GP didn’t order a few labs he wanted. I only had a CRP which was 24. It started with an achy upper arm, like I had just had an injection and kept moving to the other area. That has basically subsided, however, for 2 months I have had pain behind my upper thighs.
I had been taking ibuprofen and Tylenol extra strength.
It barely helped.
While waiting for my labs and to see the doctor again, I switched to Alieve liquid capsules, 1 every 12 hrs.
I woke up almost pain free. 2 days ago and yesterday.
Strange because I had previously finished a prescription of naproxen, which did nothing.

I’m almost 3 yrs with PMR on 5 mg prednisone as of now, I’m 76. Has anyone used Botox injections on their face to help soften wrinkles, yes I’m vain. If so, any side effect? Thank you

No I have not. I’m trying to eliminate any more types of injections. But I hear you.

I have had PMR since Dec 2024. The advice I received from my trusted injector and ChatGPT was that Botox is ok to use with Prednisone at 10mg dosage. More invasive cosmetic procedures, such as a deep peel or laser, should not be done until dose is 5mg or less. Prednisone thins the skin and can impact healing. I had successful Xeomin injection after tapering to 10 mg. Anything that helps you feel more confident while fighting this challenging disease is therapy, not vanity, in my opinion!

Are you still taking Statins? They may be the cause of your continuous muscle pains from PMR.

Have you gotten a formal diagnosis yet? Has the Alieve liquid capsules continued to provide relief? I might give them a try for my muscle soreness. All my inflammatory labs continue to be normal as well as rheumatology labs but the soreness in my hips, thighs and now shoulder, possibly from PT, persists. Dr is reluctant to do prednisone with my clinical presentation. I have a rheumatology appointment in October and I am see an orthopedic doctor this week.

Thank you for asking.
I go for my lab work tomorrow that the rheumatologist ordered, so I still don’t know what’s wrong with me. I have had much pain in both shoulders since my initial visit.
I have continued with liquid Alieve x2/day and Tylenol for arthritis x2/day and this has taken the edge off.
I’m much better when moving around. Sitting is the worst.

Thank you, it is anxiety producing for me not having a diagnosis and dealing with daily pain and soreness. I plan to try the alieve liquid Tylenol combination. Please let me hear how things progress for you.

I will. Hopefully I’ll know more in a week.
FYI. I don’t take the 2 pain meds together.
I take the Alieve at bedtime and the Tylenol after breakfast. Sometimes I’ll take 2 more Tylenol after supper.

Thank you, yes I was reading that the Alieve lasts 12 hours so I will take it spaces out from Tylenol as well. My worst soreness is early in the day. Have a good evening
