Anyone have vertigo? What causes it?

Posted by mydogsbestfriend @mydogsbestfriend, Nov 20, 2024

7 years ago I had a bad attack of vertigo. No med problems found. This past Saturday at 5 am woke with vertigo. Went to ER at 8:40 pm, they gave me meclizine & ondansetron. Did a CT of my head & neck: negative. MD did eye stuff (?) & said he didn’t think it was a crystal in my ear. Still a bit dizzy. My annual wellness visit was Monday & all my tests were fine. Does anyone have an idea what caused the vertigo? I’m still a bit dizzy but no vertigo.

My friend had vertigo after a concussion and finally found a doc that knew how to reset the crystals inside/behind the ears
and that was the answer
After you have it done professionally.... if it keeps happening... there are utube easy instructions on how to teach someone in your family how to do it

Thanks for that info. My doctor said it was NOT from crystals in the ear. I tried the Epley maneuver before going to the ER. The ER PA who treated me said the vertigo could have been from severe nasal congestion from a bad upper respiratory infections a week earlier ( negative test for covid); could have been dehydrated also. My primary MD said you first have to determine what is causing the vertigo before moving ahead with treatment.

My neurologist said to do Epley Maneuver for a week. I did it 3 days and vertigo went away. Docs can tell by your eyes if it is vertigo.

Yes. The ER doctor checked my eyes & said they were not indicative of crystals in the ear . Also the vertigo did not last after I was given meclizine

That's Bonine and that did not work for me. I do believe it is my neck - cervicogenic dizziness. Check YouTube - they have a lot on Vertigo and neck dizziness. I'm seeing a medical masseuse now.

I have it, but only on VHS.

I am a 76 yo female who has had vertigo episodes when turning my head in bed for the last 5-6 yrs. What I’ve found works for me is NOT the epley maneuver, but the Carol Foster MD Maneuver. Google her and Check out her very short video. It’s brilliant! Her maneuver puts those crystals which dislodge, causing vertigo, back into your inner ear which takes care of the vertigo. Sometimes you may have to repeat the maneuver 2-3 times with 15 minute intervals to do the trick. You should not be bothered by vertigo after the maneuver for a while….many months anyway. I had rehab therapy and it worked well for two years without another reoccurring episode. Take-home exercises have also helped and I get them out when an episode reoccurs. ENT doctors are useless as far as helping get rid of vertigo. Yes, they can look at your eyes to see the tell-tale nystagmus while doing an epley on you, and tell if you’re having vertigo, but you already know that. Beyond that they don’t offer anything. Use the Carol Foster MD Maneuver. It’s the best.

For me, it’s the dislodging of the inner ear crystals, sometimes due to inflammation like a recent sinus infection or cold, water in ear while showering or sometimes nothing I can point to. Thank goodness for the Carol Foster MD maneuver which you can google. The maneuver is very simple and much more effective for me than the Epley maneuver which can trigger vertigo. It takes vertigo away for many months. You can also do various head exercises that were given me after physical therapy for vertigo, which took away vertigo for two years. I highly recommend PT and the Carol Foster maneuver. Hope this helps you.

I disagree. No reason to continue to suffer with vertigo until you can identify the cause. In the meantime, Try the Carol Foster MD maneuver. It’s fantastic! Cures me of vertigo every time. Google it. Short video. I also had my primary doc refer me for PT which cured vertigo for a couple years. Then I do the Carol Foster MD maneuver when it reoccurs and I’m fine again. Not sure what triggers it but as long as I can nip it in the bud right away, I’m okay.
