Any solutions for eye/vision issues with long COVID?

Posted by roxannelee @roxannelee, Mar 1 11:26am

I've suffered long-COVID symptoms for over five years. I now experience bouts of blurry vision and sensitivity to light. Does anyone else experience those symptoms? Any ideas for solutions?

I wake up with really dry eyes sometimes. I have worn contacts since the age of 13 with no issues. Now, since this damn virus, I do have problems wearing the contacts for long periods. I also know that my vision is getting worse, but not sure if it is LC, age or both.

Hi @diverdown1. You are so helpful to us with all your research and hope this comes across in kind light intended. My providers shared even our eyes can get pem vision symptoms so pacing and closed eye rest every 1-2 hrs hopefully helpful🤞 quickest healing to you🌈

@law59 That makes sense. Crazy isn't it? PEM vision. This virus does not discriminate to any one specific body function. Ugh.

@diverdown1. Thankfully more info is available to lessen this journey for others and my hope is my granddaughter who shares this daily challenge with us will heal completely with no reoccurrence from measures we all here help find🤞🌈

Post Covid, and the COVD vaccine, can cause eye problems. After my fourth booster, and while experiencing post/covid, I had a serious case of modular sclerosis. Scleritis can be mild and treated with prednisone drops. Mine was severe and I took several months of oral prednisone. I still get annual eye exams. My current eye specialist says that, because I was treated early, first 24 hours, and aggressively with systemic steroids, I may avoided lasting damage. I was treated at Johns Hopkins, where I had recent surgery.

My point is, don’t wait if you are having difficulties. And don’t hesitate to get yourself to an eye specialist, since this is not really the domain of a primary care doctor.

@jwatzig still have moving spots, double vision & really clear vision with migraines. 2-3 times a week but it is better than everyday. Every test comes back in normal range. It happens after doing anything. Sometimes nothing just stress. They say the weird vision is migraines. Wore purple glasses from OT, cold packs & dark room sort of helps. Got feeling, taste & smell back after getting Paxlovid for my 3rd time with Covid Jan 2024 after no taste/smell from my original infection April 2020. Taking Aimovig injections for a preventative & sumatriptan (buy directly from Costsplus drugs - mark Cuban’s company.) insurance will only give you 9 tablets for a month. I get 30 tablets prescribed by a neurologist. Good luck 🍀
