Anyone had SADI-S Bariatric Surgery?
In a recent group support group for bariatric surgery, someone mentioned their upcoming SADI-S surgery. I was not familiar with or remember seeing it in this support group. I looked it up and it has very long name: Single-anastomosis duodeno-ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S).
SADI-S is a type of weight loss surgery that combines two procedures: sleeve gastrectomy and duodenal switch
Wondering if anyone has had SADI surgery and care to share their experience?

Hello!
I have had what was called the “mini gastric bypass”.
This was done by Dr C Peraglie in Florida. Interesting as I am from Ontario and paid out of pocket.
This involved a single anastomosis with an 8 foot intestine bypass as well as a reduction of the stomach to the size of a large magic marker.
I am over 15 years out.
286 day of surgery.
155 last week.
I don’t regret it for a moment.
There are challenges and obviously lots of changes I made but it has been manageable and luckily no major issues. I only wish I had it done in my 30’s rather than easy 40’s.
Please let me know if you want me to answer any specific questions. I’m more than happy to share and believe that sharing information can help us all. 🙂

Welcome to Mayo Connect and sharing another form of Bariatric Surgery. I had never heard of but with little research found it has been around for a while. Not all Bariatric Surgical locations do.
Here is a good article about:
https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/treatment-tests-and-therapies/oagb
Do you care to share why you chose that option over other bariatric surgeries?

There are a few reason I selected this surgery over others.
I had a coworker who had this procedure and she had no issues and had accomplished a good weight loss.
My best friend then had it done in 2007. I took her journey with her, sharing info, trials and little concerns intimately.
The final decision was made when I learned that the procedure can be completed reversed if medically necessary! Apparently the bypassed section of stomach is still inside me, and it’s possible to reconnect it if needed. I felt that this was almost like an “insurance policy” on my bypass LOL
The process to “apply” for the surgery involved a great deal of paperwork and educational materials. We had to write small essays on the procedure and possible implications.
I felt that the learning process ensured my eyes were wide open going into this.
To this day, I still have my large binder of original material and application package ( maybe a pack-rat?).
Thanks for your reply!
I hope you have a great day! 😊

Thanks for the additional info. I like the idea of having to write an essay to make sure you understand the surgery.
