Anyone else have high protein level due to MAC infection?
My GP is sending me to a hematologist because a blood test shows IgM protein. I feel very healthy despite a diagnosis of mild bronchiectasis and MAC. Just wondering if the MAC infection could be behind this? Anyone else have any experience with this?

@mholm I have not had the experience, and it's quite a few years since I had MAC. As far as I can see in my charts, my IgM was never checked.
So I did a little reading and learned that high IgM is a marker saying your body is fighting an infection.
Did the doctor explain why they ordered the test?

1 Reaction@sueinmn I think it was part of a regular blood work profile. Then the doctor ordered another test to confirm.
You have raised my curiosity! I was referred to hemotologist about 5 yrs ago with very high IgM protein levels, which continue to climb. No other symptoms. Dx is Monoclonal gammopathy of uncertain significance (MGUS), a plasma cell disorder. Not cancerous but sometimes called pre-malignant. Have had BE for 54+ yrs and finished 12mos of the Big 3 just 8 mos ago. I too am wondering if years of lung infection have caused the high IgM levels. Will address with dr @ Nov appt.

1 ReactionAbout a year ago my ID doctor ordered an IgG Subclass panel. I have MAC and some bronchiectasis and had been on the MAC antibiotics for a little over a year at that time. My IgG Subclass 2 was a little low but the hematologist said I did not need treatment. @hoopsnest17897 I also was diagnosed with MGUS at that time.
