Anyone doing "watchful waiting" with ACTs but no antibiotics?

Posted by loreofox80 @loreofox80, Jul 1 12:58pm

I am soon to be 81, in marginally good health, but am pretty sure the 3 antibiotics will make the remaining quality of my life very unacceptable. So at this time, I am trying all of the ACTs treatment options but not the Big 3 antibiotics. Anyone else doing the "watchful waiting" w/o the antibiotics. I would appreciate any suggestions or comments. Thank you very much!

I’m doing pretty much the same thing. I decided that three antibiotics were going to be worse than living a healthier life. I got side effects from albuterol so only use 7% saline in a nebulizer and put one drop of tea tree and one drop of eucalyptus per vial. They are both antibacterial and I order the medical grade from a lady in Montana. My night sweats are almost gone. Nausea and Cough minimal. My breathing is better and my energy is better. My sister says even my voice sounds better. I do use the albuterol inhaler from time to time.Much to their chagrin, I told the doctors that I will check in about every six months. I’m very glad I chose this route!

And would you be willing to share who you get the medicinal grade oils from in Montana? Thank you!

The paper I read was a long research paper by someone diagnosed with a lung disease but also a medically trained person who documented the results of all his testing on himself. After reading the article And bibliography, I didn’t have much to lose so I decided to follow the same path. So far I’m glad. Found it! https://www.cfnaturalhealth.com/blog/inhaling-essential-oils

Aromatics International. I have used other Essential Oils but not to ingest in the nebulizer and have found these to be different. They are labeled with all the Product information but also say “ Recommended for external use”. The mother daughter team does alot of text and email specials and they have videos and classes you can watch.

I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis in 2016, but believe I had it for quite a few years. Diagnosed with MAI in 2016 by bronchoscopy. My last 2 CT scans showed no new nodules and waning existing nodules. I feel good for the most part and have a few exacerbations that did not require hospitalizations and recovered. I decided against the antibiotics for the same reasons as others. I am sensitive to drugs and really didn't feel I was there yet. Been nabbing with saline for 9 years. First 3% and last 2 months 7%. Doing airway clearance with postural drainage and breathing techniques. Could not use the Smart Vest. I do have a healthy diet and have been spending more time in cooler climates as I feel much better.
So far so good and wishing us all successful journeys. Oh yeah, I am 75 and also have hymoptysis.

Interesting comment about cooler climate as summer is tough for me here in SC.

ktw1147, this is not a research paper. It is one person's experience, posted on his web site where he markets videos and seeks donations. He does not claim to have any traditional medical training but, rather, to be a "certified clinical herbalist," a designation worth what you paid for it.

What does your doctor think about your nebulizing tea tree and eucalyptus oil? Doesn't "Recommended for external use" mean they are for use on your skin, not in your lungs?

As you know from reading here, there is not one single treatment for bronchiectasis and/or NTM, but working with a specialist you trust together with regular ACT and nebulizing with 3-7% saline are foundational. Maybe it's time to loop your doctor in with respect to your treatment plan? Wishing you good health.

Using an essential oils diffuser might be safer than nebulizing -- less risk of bronchospasm. The late herbalist Stephen Harrod Buhner, who wrote books on natural antivirals and antibacterials, used to nebulize ginger oil and other oils. His protocols for COPD and IPF are available on his website, for those interested in natural treatments that might not have much supportive medical research. Best of luck to everyone. Involving your doctor is always a good idea, when possible.

Essential Oils!
YES - I use them (externally) extensively to help with chronic pain, skin conditions, as aromatherapy...
NO - I do not inhale or nebulize them, even though I purchase mine from a reputable source, store them carefully and try to keep them uncontaminated.
WHY? There is no regulatory body to oversee the production and insure safety. My lungs are already a "hot mess" with Asthma, Bronchiectasis, scar tissue from past infections...

Is there something of interest in this blog?
Absolutely - I will be trying more aromatherapy with Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Cinnamon and Lemon Grass as my airway clearance seems "stuck" right now and I fear developing another infection.
Also, I feel my lung capacity is diminishing slightly, and eucalyptus has been shown in hospitals to be helpful with respiratory distress, only a single study to be sure, but quite eye-opening.
The anti-bacterial properties of the other oils are also well-known, but because I have sensitive lungs, I will introduce the oils one-at-a-time, first by themselves, then in combination with eucalyptus, over a period of several days/weeks.
Along with these trials I will continue my airway clearance/exercise routine, with periodic 7% saline nebs, to try to stay healthy.

What concerned me in the blog? Well, this person has Cystic Fibrosis, and whether they chose to continue traditional treatment or not while using the oils is not clear - but suffice it to say Mica was NOT cured in any way by this therapy - two years later they had a double lung transplant. I am not sure if the blog is still active, but the Facebook link does not work and no current classes are offered. So this might not be the "poster child" for alternative medicine.

Finally, keep in mind that you are experimenting with uncontrolled substances - let your doctors know if you have any other conditions or use any medications. I recently learned that the turmeric (curcumin) I used to alleviate inflammation is also an anti-coagulant. When combined with other meds I use it was causing excessive bruising and bleeding from the slightest bump. Good thing I had this on my med list - when I needed surgery, I had to stop it for 14 days beforehand, delaying the operation, or I could have had major bleeding.

Hoping to hear some results from your trials.
