Anyone diagnosed with Sagging Eye Syndrome?
I’ve had progressive double-vision for the last 2-3 years. My Optometrist said our eye muscles can become weaker as we age. It was starting to bother me when driving. I saw an Ophthalmologist who consulted with a Neuro-Ophthalmologist and diagnosed me with Sagging Eye Syndrome. Since my straight-forward vision is good, he said he wouldn’t do anything right now. If it keeps progressing, prism glasses. He said surgery was uncommon. I haven’t heard any positive stories involving prism glasses and I’m wondering if anyone else is dealing with this.

Our vision is very important to us just for everyday life and so I understand what you are saying.
My mom had some issues with her eyelids coming down or folding many years ago. They did a little plastic surgery, and it was covered to remove the Excess skin above the eye. It help helped her a lot.
Do your research Google it you could also go to Google Scholar And see what you can find for information. For me, I need to know and understand what is going on
I wish you the very best in your journey

1 Reaction@minnesota10 I appreciate your reply. I’m happy your Mom found something that helped her. You’re right, our vision is so important to function everyday. I believe SES is different than what your Mom has. SES is the weakening of the connective tissue that connects to the eye muscles. It causes the eyes to misalign resulting in double vision. I haven’t heard of Google Scholar. I’ll check it out.

1 ReactionI was Dx with SES and my double vision which I’ve had for about 5 years now was not correcting with prisms any longer. I was first diagnosed with ocular myasthenia and that’s still up in the air due to other factors. But in December 2025 I had corrective muscle surgery on both eyes and I have seen a big improvement on my double vision except when I am tired or stressed out. Now I don’t know if surgery is the best option but it was my last hope.
I hope this helps you decide what course of action you take and I wish you the best of luck!

2 ReactionsI have worn prism glasses for years. They do help with double vision. You won't even know you have them.

1 Reaction@dragonflylady Thank you for your response. Your info is very helpful. Do you have single vision after the surgery? Did your double vision come on slowly and get progressively worse with time? Did the surgeon tell you that you could have another surgery if your double vision comes back or gets worse?
@mikaylar That’s amazing. It’s nice to hear from someone with a positive experience with prisms. Thank you for taking the time to reply.

1 Reaction@vettechik60 I have single vision with or without my glasses and no prisms in my glasses.
My double vision came on suddenly and then went away then came back for good and got worse. The surgeon that did my surgery did say she could tweak my muscles but wanted to wait for my follow up appointment in July 2026 if I needed it but honestly I am happy with my results any improvement is better than living like I was because I was restricted from driving in certain situations and I’m a very independent woman.
