Anyone been on IV Ertapenem antibiotic?
I just started the IV antibiotic Ertapenem. I have NTM and BE and also have a right middle lobe collapse. Has anyone had this IV treatment and if so has it helped at all? Did you have any side effects while on it? I am hoping it will help me get back to feeling well again! I am also hoping to get on the new drug Brensocatib soon.

@lmh7 I see that no one has replied to your question - it seems that it is rare to be treated with it for NTM infections - can you tell us what led to this point?
If you go to the search box at the top of the page, you will get a list of discussions where Ertapenem has been the topic.
How is treatment going so far? Are you doing home infusions, with or without medical assistance?
Ertapenem does not cover Pseudomonas but otherwise ertapenem and meropenem are closely related antibiotics. They belong to the same class of drugs called carbapenems, which are a type of beta-lactam antibiotic. I see that Ertapenem is not included in current treatment guidelines for NTM lung disease, and its effectiveness can vary significantly depending on the mycobacterial species.
I just finished 14 days of Meropenem for Pseudomonas (not covered by Ertapenem) and did it as an outpatient going into our local hospital for the infusions.
This is my second time of being on Meropenem. Yes it helped a great deal but the question is will things just quickly revert. The side effects for me both times were very little and I get side effects from everything usually.

4 Reactions@sueinmn I am now finished with the IV treatment and I feel so much better! I had been on several oral antibiotics almost continuously for the past year and the BE flare-ups kept happening right afterwards so that is the reason for the IV Ertapenem. I had no side effects while on it. I had a PICC line and went to my local hospital once daily to get the infusion. I just started Brinsupri this week so I'm hoping it will be a game changer.

3 ReactionsHi, I’m new in this site. I was treated with carbapenem for a little over a week after my infection was resistant to many sepsis antibiotics. The E-coli was ESBL resistant… something like that. I am not feeling that great post Sepsis. My bones and joints hurt.
