Anybody have a positive experience with baclafen for spasticity?
I have thoracic myelopathy causing foot drop and spasticity in lower extremities. My doctor recommended baclafen for these symptoms.
Has anyone experienced success with this drug for spasticity? Any side effects to be concerned about? Recommended 5mg once daily for one week, gradually increasing dosage and frequency as needed. Any feedback regarding use of baclafen would be greatly appreciated.

Baclofen caused pain throughout my body. I could not tolerate it.
My new doctor said Baclofen was better than Flexeril that I have taken for years with help for my severe muscle spasms.
But I tried the Baclofen with his instruction. AWFUL! It shut down my GI tract. Not just constipating. It’s been months and I’m still not back to normal. I couldn’t eat because of the nausea and I became impacted. Horrible.
I just want to stay in my own path that works for me.
No one cared about what it did to me. Oh well was the attitude.
I use baclofen for MS muscle spasms 10 mg daily. I have used for several years now with no problems. I do use metaxalone as needed when spasms are more severe.
I’ve been taking Baclofen since 1990 and except for a dose increase to 20mg 4x a day I’ve had no issues. It works well for my everyday muscle spasms but not so when barometric pressure changes or when it rains, in snow and cold.
Muscle tension with me is so severe I have not been able to go outside for over 10 years except for about a year when I was taking Butal/ acetamn/caffeine which has turned on me as it actually makes me worse! Dr gave me tizanidine and that made me worse too! Any suggestions ( aarniek@ aol.com)

By worse, do you mean side effects from the drug itself or the spasticity became even more severe? Are there newer drugs dealing with the management of spasticity that your doctor could recommend? I am on the lowest dose of baclofen (my second go-around after trying botox injections to no avail) and am only taking it at night (when my spasms are the most active). Our care plan includes increasing the dosage(10 mg) and try daytime as well. Some people find relief with baclofen while others, like myself, are still in the trial and error phase. Anyone find success with muscle relaxers and/or new ways to mannage (or minimize ) the life-changing effects of spasticity?
