Any success stories about Evenity to share with fearful me?

Posted by callmekate @callmekate, Aug 23 8:57pm

After acquiring 2 compression fractures, I am biting the bullet and going for my first Evenity shot in 2 days. I am afraid of everything from heart palpitations (I have AFIB) to muscle spasms and joint pain and everything else . Has anyone been ok on the shots? Or only had minor issues? I would love to read encouraging words. My REMS scores were ok: hip -1.0, spine -1.2, but my DEXA scores were much worse: hip -2.8, spine-4.8, so I feel I have little choice now. Many thanks.

I thought I would lobby to get Evenity for myself instead of the Reclast my endocrinologist recommends. However, after you mentioned the knee issues, I might have to rethink about my position. I get joint pain (not enough to prevent me from golfing and walking a lot), but I wouldn’t want it to get any worse than now. This is the reason I love to read this blog; it is informative, and as you mentioned, it’s real life issues, not statistics based on a trial program.

Much depends on how negative your T score is.
If you need to build bone Evenity or Tymlos is recommended before reclast.
Reclast looks in the gains after completion of either one.
Reclast by itself like prolia prevents existing bone from breaking down further.
Just like the other two reclast has side effects as well. Will let you know after the infusion of reclast in a few weeks what my experience is with side effects.

My tscores are;
Spine -3.2
Hips -2.2

So would it make more sense to slow down the bone loss by doing Reclast, instead of building bone by doing Evenity or Tymlos or Forteo? How about the fact that my CTX levels are 460s. Is that considered high so that it needs to be lowered, hence the reason I should do Reclast??
If only I could get a trabecular score so I would know the quality of my bone. I do think it must be pretty good because I fell recently (my dogs were chasing each other, they came towards me and I fell backwards with both of them on top of me) and nothing broke.

Can't speak to the CTX levels. Question for your doc.
I had a spontaneous thigh fracture 1 year prior to starting Evenity. My ortho doc said I really had no choice.
She was very encouraging. I met with endo doc later. Both on same page.
Risk of spine fracture not something I ever want to experience. The thigh recoup time was almost a year.
Enough was enough for me.

It is very understandable to be fearful of starting powerful drugs. I was.

I'm taking Evenity too. Just had my second monthly injection.

The only negative side-effect I've noticed is mild, fleeting nausea, which happens 24 to 36 hours following the infusion. The ill-feeling's so subtle it's barely noticeable.

My next scan's scheduled for ten months from now. I guess I'll know then if the medication worked.

Has anyone gone from taking Tymlos and having good results to Evenity? My doctor has mentioned going to Reclast and saving Evenity if Tymlos results are good.

If I'm remembering right, @windyshores did two years of Tymlos with great results & then did one year of Evenity. I don't know if she's still on here. She had afib & some bad side effects on Tymlos & mostly did 6-7 clicks of the injection pen instead of the full 8-click dose. I think she had good gains with Evenity. Maybe you can search for her name someway if I spelled it correctly.

I associate growing pains with a period of rapid growth, notf normal growth. Therefore, I never experienced those pains and don't see why I should experience them now.

Lets try "growing pains" not what children and adolescents experience during growth spurts. Think of it as a saying that be a descriptor.

I am 83, just completed my 12th month of Evenity and have had no problems. I always get the shots in my butt so I don't have a sore arm. Today I am going to pick up my prescription of fosamax (?) and I am not looking forward to it. Took it years ago and stopped because it made me feel depressed. If it does the same, I will have to do something else. Best of Luck with your Evenity!

I would also love to hear the answer to this. I’ve had good results on Tymlos (lumbar spine improved from -2.7 to -1.5), so why wouldn’t I want to keep the improvement going with Evenity before locking everything in with Reclast?

Jump to this post

Does reclast really lock it in? Im just about to start tymlos at 59, i dont think at my age i will have the benefit of locking in what will i do at 70? Having to start these meds so early dont leave us with much for the future does it. I will have to look into protocals because ON of the jaw is a real threat with me.
