Any opinions about Zoloft or Sertraline?

My husband passed away almost a year ago. I do feel a little depressed sometimes. My pcp has prescribed 50 mg sertraline. I have not taken it yet as I do not want to depend on medication. My doctor said I can take half of the pill. Does anyone have any side effects with Setraline

Sertraline did give me energy during the day and helped with my thoughts but affected my sleep. Hard to fall asleep and stay asleep. I think that is the general consensus but they say everyone is affected differently.

I take 100 mg of sertraline. It definitely has helped me with my depression. I did gain weight but I also take ability that has that effect. Other than weight I lost a lot of my sex drive but I was also going thru menopause. ???

Good to hear that it helps you.
The only drawbacks of the antidepressants is the side effects.

Both meds helped me tremendously. First was prescribed Sertraline which did work great, but literally killed my appetite and I couldn't eat. (Dry mouth, can't swallow type thing) Because of this, I was switched to Zoloft which I have been taking since my daughter was born in 2019. I am also one who does not like taking meds/ does not like having to depend on them, but I have stopped a couple times and each time I went back to a very depressed state. After this last time, I have decided that I can no longer function without them. I am still depressed at times, but not feeling absolutely hopeless or suicidal thoughts.

You definitely want to out-weigh the cons vs benefits. For me, the benefits far out-weigh my want to be medication free. I am a happier person for myself and for everyone around me.
