Any luck using Tylenol and ibuprofen for joint pain?

When I saw my rheumatologist she was ready to give me another medication for PMR. Not one medication has worked for me and I’m really afraid to try any new medication’s. I was wondering if any of you had any luck with these over-the-counter painkillers for their PMR? any information you can give me would be very very helpful! Thank you !

I take 1000 mg of Tylenol in the AM and PM and sometimes around 3 PM. This is for generalized pain. I think it is due to PMR. The pain I have is not joint pain, but pain around the joints, I think in the tendons or possibly the muscles. Without Tylenol before I go to bed, I would have a hard time sleeping. Tylenol the rest of the day just cuts the pain in the tendons around the joints. I have had PMR for 35 years with pain throughout the shoulder girdle and hip girdle for no reason, and have been on and off prednisone all that time, mostly on. I am currently on Kevzara for about 9 months and down to 2.5 mg of prednisone. The Kevzara seems to be helping. It does require regular blood tests.

3,000 mg of acetaminophen daily is getting close to toxic amounts. Do you have any liver problems?

I do a monthly infusion of Actemra. I sometimes take 650 mg of acetaminophen before bed but nothing during the day. I hope Kevzara will get you off prednisone.

I got off prednisone with Actemra. I was also able to discontinue at least 5 additional medications that were treating prednisone side effects.

No liver problems yet, but I am only 80 yo.
