Any long Covid people here who developed lung nodules?
As part of the clinical long Covid study I’ve been doing for a year, I had a clean chest X-ray a year ago. Monday they found a 9mm nodule in my right posterior lung as well as “minor air trapping.” I’ve never smoked.
They referred me to their (University of Illinois Chicago) Lung Nodule department. The said they have seen cases lung nodules with long Covid. My symptoms have been fatigue and brain fog. This was very unexpected and worrying, since my dad died of lung cancer two years ago and cancer also got his sister and mom.
Have you seen any reputable studies or articles on this combination? I’m finding quite a few on my own and would like to see someone else’s “homework” if they’ve already been looking at it.

I too developed multiple lung nodules in both lungs my shortness of breath is extreme none of the Dr’s have provided anything to improve my situation
Yes! A year after I had Covid ( relatively mild case- just severe cough) & 10 months of long Covid my lung X-rays showed many nodules. My dr said my lungs looked like I had a history of chronic lung disease. I hadn’t smoked since 1970, and had no symptoms til Covid, plus routine X-rays in the past didn’t show any nodules so I know it’s the long Covid. I still have shortness of breath but no cough
I’m a retired nurse & when I read the X-ray report I was shocked & scared
In 2022 I had a CT scan of abdominal. Pelvis and chest because of consistent Temps >100.0. They were looking for anything abnormal. There were multiple < m nodules found. I was told most adults get them as they age. I am a nonsmoker and not exposed to smoke. I got a repeat to check on them this year, no changes were found. Still I am skeptical, still with shortness of breath and exhaustion with activity.
Those nodules were < 6 mm in size.
There is also a connection to low D3, so request labs for that. I had two checkups, six months apart and then will see the doctors and have tests again at one year. I have one ground glass nodule, but the rest are benign, and have not grown. I get yearly CT scans due to another condition, and my feeling is that they catch things that xrays do not, and possibly too early to treat. There is a good group on the lung diseases part of this site.
Yes, CT showed in both lungs.
I developed a lung nodule after COVID. It turned out to be melanoma.
If you had cancer before, please have your doctor focus on that. Mine did not, and it it surprised him, as I had cutaneous melanoma 17 years before that had been excised at Stage 1 with clear margins.
I have had severe long covid symptoms for three years. Now CT and PET scan show multiple nodules and cysts in my lungs. They first said it was a rare cancer (Langerhans) and then said it is nothing, not to worry. I do worry. I also have COPD but never had symptoms until now. Shortness of breath and fatigue. Every time I have brought up the issue of long covid to any doctor I was totally shut down, and I was very sick (bedridden sick) for two years with GI symptoms. I don't know what to do.
I am so sorry this has happened to you. My parents had lung cancer and died from it, so it was quite unnerving to have these nodules come along. Petscan was okay last year, and I'll be going through the same tests in December.
I have an autoimmune which is similar to Lupus and descriptions of Long Covid. There is plenty of practical advice out there on sites that help one feel better. It is important to move daily and to follow up with specialists regarding symptoms. Have you been to a gastroenterologist? A non-processed diet, avoidance of sugar, whole wheat, dairy, potatoes, etc can help inflammation. I also like the advice on GERD triggers on webmd. A diagnosis is often hard to obtain, so do what you can with chasing symptoms and an adaptive lifestyle.
