Anxiety about starting Evenity
My recent bone scan showed a vertebral compression fracture so my dr wants me to start Evenity. (I’ve had 2 infusions of Reclast in last 2 years) no problems with the Reclast but very nervous about Evenity.

@kristie2 They stopped my Evenity and my cancer infusions after 6 months when I ended up having an aneurysm and a TIA. When they went to decide what to do next, was when they discovered my bone density (DEXA scan) showed more bone loss, not less and no new bone growth. I had been excited about Evenity until then. The decision was made for me at that time. I am glad it is working for you.

1 ReactionI was nervous as well in fact, put it off for many months. I’ve had three injections. Each time it’s two needles the first time the normal spot on your arm for a vaccine.
Second time the backs of my arms, they swelled up the size of eggs and itched a lot the first day took several days for the swelling to go down
Today I wanted to try my legs, but she insisted on doing the stomach because I would have to pull my pants down and she’s never done shots in legs.
This was not a good idea for me. I have irritable, bowel and have time to time uncomfortable abdomen anyhow.
I’m sitting here now with the massager on my abdomen
But my bones are in such bad shape with three fractures in the thoracic area. Anyhow, I’m seeing this as a necessity.

1 Reaction@sstopalian Wow! $600 a month is a lot to me, but I understand the benefits in quality. My primary care and hospital system seems to be very good quality and I have no other health concerns beyond Osteopenia/Osteoporosis (I have two divergent readings-spine/forearm). If I cannot get some co-payment support, then next January 2027, if I decide to proceed with Evenity, I'll pay approximately $525 per month for 4 months, but then my advantage insurance will cover the entire cost of Evenity for the remaining 8 months (months 5-12). We'll see how it goes.

1 Reaction@maryelle I think it is best to go on website for the drug and look up all possible side effects. And that's what a doctor should advise. Mayo clinic regular website and other good sites may add some info to the list. doctors are best at telling you most common side effects but they don't usually tell you every possible one. The website will list every possible side effect, even if unlikely. The doctor may be good at telling you frequency (i.e. likelihood) of side effects, in their clinical experience, and your own risk/benefit analysis, in their opinion.
@spunkyspinster That is very disappointing! So sorry to hear all that.
Just life. All we can do is keep trying. Wishing you the very best.
