Anxiety about starting Evenity
My recent bone scan showed a vertebral compression fracture so my dr wants me to start Evenity. (I’ve had 2 infusions of Reclast in last 2 years) no problems with the Reclast but very nervous about Evenity.

I had 9 Evenity injections and after the 9th one developed brutal itching. It continued 7 months. During that period I lived on antihistamines and anti itch creams. This brutal itching included upper torso and breasts. Never experienced this before but my certified menopause practitioner insisted the Evenity wasn't the problem and I should see an allergist. There is no doubt in my mind that the Evenity was the problem. She said she never had anyone with that symptom and if it was the Evenity it would have appeared long before the 9th injection. By the way, I had no other symptoms.

I had great improvement in scores with Evenity but ended with a side effect of left femoral pain due to cortical thickening in left thigh, which is cause by long use of meds (previous had Reclast x 3 with no effects). This started on 10th month of Evenity. I have had no relief of this with meds or injections. I can barely walk. I recommend injections in abdomen as they are less painful. Good luck. I will not longer do anything but exercise and supplements as I do not have a life since Evenity. Age 77

5 ReactionsI am more concerned about low iron noted side effect of Evenity as I have chronic anemia and Lukopenia. And also seems you have to follow up Evenity with bisophomates to maintain gains, which I have had severe reaction to in the past. Anyone experience low iron on Evenity?
Evenity has been prescribed for my osteopenia and osteoporosis DEXA Scans, but I cannot start until next January 2027 to ensure the 12-month treatment falls within 1 calendar year for my $2,100 insurance deductible. Has anyone had any co-pay help for Evenity?
@souderkirk are you not eligible for Amgen copay help?
I start Evenity next week

Nervous but encouraged to find this support group
@laurabirdsong I am eligible for Amgen co-pay help but the funds aren't currently available for osteoporosis. I keep checking back weekly. I'm also doubling down on nutrition by getting my calcium from food, exercising, using light to medium weights and using my vibration plate machine.
@souderkirk are you on Medicare? Are you talking about the $2,100 cap on prescription drugs, where the patient is responsible for the first $2,100 of drug cost before insurance picks up all the rest? If so that doesn't apply to Evenity; it is covered by Part B since it is administered in a doctor's office (or infusion center) . So Medicare would cover 80% of the cost, with the patient responsible for the other 20%, unless you have a Medigap supplement insurance plan, which would cover that 20%. With a Medicare Advantage plan, it would still pay for 80% and the patient the remainder, up to their maximum out of pocket, then the plan would pay the rest.
I thought Amgen only offered financial assistance to those with private, commercial insurance (i.e., not for those on Medicare).

1 Reaction@dkgl I hate when the obvious is dismissed. Are you off the drug now? Is it getting better?
@cphip After the January 2025 9th injection the certified menopause practitioner said I must start Prolia in March to maintain whatever I gained. So while still suffering this brutal itching I had the first Prolia injection. The end of July 2025 all itching stopped. August and September were fine. Had my 2nd Prolia injection the first week in October 2025. One week later the brutal itching began again. Didn't bother letting the practitioner know until January of this year. Of course she said the Prolia was still active in my system until April 2026 when the next Prolia injection was due. Of course I told her no way would I continue so she said Reclast was next.
Told her forget it. It is time to see An Endocrinologist and I have any appointment in a few weeks. Still itching, certainly not as much.
