In addition to my previous post, garlic also shows some promise.

Umm! Weird response! I am really interested in natural remedies and I seriously wanted to know. Can you go out after, does it last long? I can’t reiterate enough that was a serious question. I’m not trying to be funny or witty!

I’m sorry. It was such an unexpected question I assumed you weren’t serious. But, yes I can imagine smelling of garlic will be part of this Allicin treatment but I wasn’t aware of it at the time.

I am new to this group and newly diagnosed. I don’t have a lot of experience but I have a very interesting experience with Allicin. I travelled to visit some friends over the Christmas holiday before I had even had a chance to talk with my pulmonologist about my MAC diagnosis. My friends that I was spending the holidays with were the perfect people to land with. Just by chance their life experience fighting for their lung health had guided them to using Allicin in a very interesting way. I’ll explain the process here and you could give it a try. I tried it for a week and was quite amazed at the difference I experienced in my sputum production. When I got back with my pulmonologist I agreed to put that aside for a while and try all of her recommendations first. I will return to the Allicin therapy after giving some respectful adherence to my doctor’s guidelines.

Here’s what I was taught:
Put three good size cloves of garlic peeled into a Ziploc bag, close it and lay it flat on a solid surface. Using the flat side of a meat pounder (?) Or some blunt rubber or wooden hammer like to tool, smash cloves well. Let stand 10 minutes. This 10 minutes allows the Allicin chemical compound to form. Then, sit comfortably and hold the open plastic bag around your nose and mouth and breath normally for a half hour. Careful not to let the “seal” above your nose become loose because it irritates your eyes. Twice a day.

Good luck if you give this a try! And I will be around. I will post a lot of the links to scientific studies about allicin that have come about recently. To be continued!

I’m a great fan of garlic and take an allicin capsule every day, more if I feel like I’m getting sick. I’m very curious about trying this and wonder how they figured out that it takes 10 minutes for the allicin to be released from the crushed garlic? And how did they come up with 1/2 hour twice a day?

Thank you. I’m sorry my question was misunderstood. I felt so bad when I read your reply. I’m actually starting at NJH for testing today. I’m willing to try anything. I know when I cut garlic how bad my fingers smell Nevermind inhaling it for 1/2 hr. Lol. I don’t care of course if it works, I just wanted to know did you do it and people noticed or really any info. Thank you again.

I'm happy to see the interest in my 2021 post regarding garlic. I see many are asking about the length of time for garlic vapors. I have neglected to follow-up but here is the information based on the research:

Link to research: https://www.mdpi.com/1420-3049/22/10/1711

"There are historical precedents for the successful treatment of lung infections by garlic preparations. Thus, Minchin [21] used a specially designed mask to treat tuberculosis patients twice daily by one-hour inhalation periods with crushed garlic preparations containing ‘oleum allii’. Minchin also reported using oleum allii inhalation prophylactically “in the homes of, and by the members of, families notably affected by pulmonary tuberculosis”. These pioneering studies dropped out of focus as streptomycin, without the unpleasant smell of allicin, was introduced in 1944 and used as a treatment for tuberculosis."

This is another test of garlic on 30 strains (17 species) of mycobacteria.

I posted in the original thread but I wanted to include the information here as well. According to research, one hour twice a day was effective for successful treatment. I'll have to do some more back tracking through my notes, but I recall that doing this for 2 months was the duration of treatment.

Wow. Minchin - I’ve heard him referenced but I’m not sure I’ve followed through to read everything. So much to read! So much investigating and googling! Thank you so much for sharing. Glad to find others on the same track.

These varieties of garlic have the highest allicin content:

Siberian garlic has one of the highest concentrations of allicin when compared to other garlic varieties. Porcelain garlic, such as Romanian Red, Parvin and Georgian Crystal, also have high allicin content.

Hi Everyone...
My hubby and I were chatting, and he suggested that maybe since garlic has anti toxic properties..perhaps it could erradicate MAC.
Soooo. I looked it up and read below....
"Historically, garlic is known to kill mycobacterial strains, and its active compound, allicin, kills various microorganisms. Here we have shown that allicin not only reduced the bacterial burden in the lungs of mice infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb), but also induces strong anti-tubercular immunity."
I'm wondering why the drug companies don't pursue this possibility. Could it be about money? Just wondering?????
I can tell you that starting tomorrow I'm grinding up fresh garlic cloves/raw and sprinkling it on my food on a daily basis. Lots of it.
I just wanted to bring this to you all's attention. It's certainly worth looking into! I was shocked when I read this....I suspect using fresh raw garlic would be most beneficial. Nothing to lose....I love garlic!
Google it for more info.......Wouldn't that be a miracle?????? Bon

I tried eating raw garlic every morning on an empty stomach for two months before I started treatment. Don’t know if it helped or not. Certainly couldn’t hurt. Also manuka honey
