Yes, long term alcoholism and consumption can cause neuropathy.
Permanent damage?
Yup. Permanent. I developed it. Maybe if you catch it early and stop drinking they can do something about it provided you don’t have diabetes or some other nerve-type issue. I have a mild form of it primarily in my toes. I’m 71 and have been sober for 9 years. It’s a little scary to live with as you get older and start feeling that your whole body is slowly falling apart, but at least I’ve gotten used to it. A lot of people have it.
Do talk with a doctor.
I think the answer may be it depends. The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy has quite a lot of information on the topic - https://www.foundationforpn.org/causes/alcohol/.
Thank you for sharing valuable information.
At the beginning of my symptoms my B-6 was 59.6 . We were thinking this was the culprit but now my b-6 is 16.7 and symptoms are starting to get worse.
Thank you sir and I pray for your complete healing.
It is nerve damage. I know that if the person quits, the damage may stop, but it is my understanding that it is permanent nerve damage, however, I am not a doctor. I am a recovering alcoholic. I was lucky that I did not get neuropathy, however, I have friends who do and they continue to drink. There is a lot of information you can find online.
Thank you and God bless you!
