Posted by bdr @bdr, Mar 11, 2023

Hi-
I had difficulty getting nebulizer med and now it looks to be getting worse:

Any ideas or resources?

@lauraadam2425, CVS is right. It is not recommended that patients share their unused medications. The safer method is to return the unused medication to a pharmacy.

For safety reasons, Mayo Clinic does not recommend that members exchange unused medications or supplements and the sharing of mailing addresses raises privacy concerns. While I know your offer originates from kindness, safety and privacy comes first. This is a good reminder for all members.

Thank you, Laura, for your kindness.

Thank you, I just think it is such a shame at this time when people are hurting that all you can do is let medicine expire. So back in the closet it goes.

If you have a free or low-priced clinic near you, and local law allows, sometimes they will accept sealed, unexpired meds.

My local CVS was out of stock so I called around to some of the other pharmacies and my local Walgreens had some in stock so I just transferred my rx to Walgreens without any problems. You might want to check around. I think the albuterol inhaler is easier to use and works a little better than the nebulizer.

My CVS has been out of the Albuterol solution for months. Still is. I checked with Walgreens and they had a few . I was able to get those. But, it’s not many. They have had trouble getting the saline solution at times, also.

For my personal use I do not think I have ever thrown expired medicine away, over the counter or RX, it cost too much.

I no longer use the albuterol so it is just sitting there.
