In patients who may have pulmonary infection with Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC), diagnostic testing includes acid-fast bacillus (AFB) staining and culture of sputum specimens.

@healthybon Bon - This means there is bacteria in the preliminary screening of your sputum, but now it needs to be sent to the specialty lab to be grown in culture medium for 8 weeks to see exactly what it is.
Once again, this is a time to call the doctor's office for their interpretation.
