ADEM and Visual Snow

Posted by joyluc1330 @joyluc1330, Aug 29, 2017

Hi! My teenage son was recently attacked by a virus which the doc classified it as probably ADEM. After being hospitalised for 8 months, he is finally discharged. My worry is his low vision. He is unable to see clearly and only in black & white; the centre of his vision is static.

I was wondering if my son is suffering from visual snow.

I can't imagine what it must have been like for you and your son to be hospitalized for 8 months. Was his diagnosis of acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) confirmed? How is your son doing now that he is at home? How are you?

You mentioned that one of your biggest concerns is the complications with his vision and ask about visual snow. I invite you to join this discussion on Connect, where you'll meet others like @ktshy @erikassf @danny59 @amyjo @carlie2 and @jglacken56, who are dealing with visual snow:

@joyluc1330 I suffer from visual snow. I am attributing it to possible lyme or co-infection. What symptoms does your son have?

Hi, Colleen!

Thanks for the welcome!

Yes, he's been classified as ADEM. He's actively searching for ways to better his visual from clinical trials to technologies. But so far, nothing seems to direct him to a possible cure.

Hi, Danny!

His central vision is static while the side visual is blurry. He can't make out things while is more than a meter away.

Do you share the same symptoms? What treatments have you try? My son has been taking Idebenone.
