Acute Idiopathic Pericarditis

Posted by papabear75 @papabear75, Oct 5 1:38am

Was diagnosed around 2nd week September. Was in the hospital for 5 days. Diabetic type 2. Sugar now is well managed/controlled. I still have shortness of breath at times. It seems like I have a cough again... Been taking aspirin and colchicine... anyone in the same situation as me?

Hi @papabear75. It sounds like you are making great strides towards getting better. I am glad to see you post this comment to find others with similar experiences with acute idiopathic pericarditis.

I am tagging @johnbflat and @jra1969 because they have commented about pericarditis.

You mention a 5 day hospital stay. What happened while you were there? What does your doctor tell you about recovery expectations?

@jlharsh they monitored my sugar and at first gave me 800mg ibuprofen 3x a day which elevated my liver enzymes so they changed it. They gave colchicine 2x a day and 500mg aspirin 3x a day which I have to take for at least 2 months. They did an ultrasound with my heart everyday to monitor it. They made sure kidneys and liver are functioning good which thank God they are functioning well. I had a follow up check with my GP last week. All the numbers were good except it seems I am mild anemic due to all the blood thinners. I have another follow up with my cardio on the 15th

Wow, your last month addressing pericarditis has been a lot to deal with, @papabear75! It is so good to hear what your doctors are recommending is working for you, and you are getting better.

I am tagging @swoods2002 who has also been dealing with pericarditis.

swoods2002, a year ago you were dealing with not being able to laydown or laydown to sleep due to the pressure in your heart, and somewhat relieved when sitting up. Like @papabear75 it sounds like aspirin and colchicine worked for you at least at one point, and you should be well passed your 30-days of pantaprazole. How are you doing now? What did you decide about caffeine?

Papabear75, I believe your follow-up cardio appointment was today. How did it go? How are you feeling?
