Acupuncture and Osteoporosis?

Posted by pennykj @pennykj, Oct 3, 2023

Has anyone tried acupuncture to help reduce bone loss or improve bone quality due to osteoporosis?

I just came across this article which indicates acupuncture may be helpful.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36521826/.
I have significant osteoporosis in my spine, but no fractures so far and I am searching for anything other than osteo prescription meds (which scare me). I am trying many new things right now (6 prunes/day, Marodyne LiV, collagen and am getting ready to try L. reuteri probiotic soon) in addition to the "normal" stuff.

A friend suggested I research acupuncture.

Once my gyn discouraged me from HRT, I stopped researching. However, before I met with my gyn I read Keith McCormick's book and Estrogen Matters book.
Since then, I have started drinking soy milk and eating Natto (Japanese fermented soybeans). Natto allegedly will help bone density.

This is my personal experience. I have had osteopenia for many years. My bone density increased from osteopenia into the normal range in my recent test. I had my last test two years ago and since then have been seeing an accupuncturist for many issues with my body. None of them were bone density issues.

But that is the only thing I have changed in the last two years. I will say one hip still has very minimal osteopenia while spine and other hip are now normal. In looking this up the Mayo clinic says there has been some research that indicates there may be a correlation. But not enough studies have been done. There have been positive results in animal studies.

I was really floored when I got the results this month. I think some insurances will pay (or pay part of) the cost. Worth looking into... The other great news is everything from my planter fascitis (now gone), baker's cysts (shrunk), osteoarthritis pain, burning tongue and many more things have also been helped so much by accupuncture.
