AAA procedure by interventional radiologist

Posted by margieyuki @margieyuki, 4 days ago

My husband found his Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm 10 years ago. He was told to
monitor it. Then 6 years ago it measured 4.9 cm and he had surgery to put in a stent, and was checked annually. In July at his checkup it grew to 4.6 cm. I questioned that and he had a CT where it measured 5.4 cm. We were concerned. An interventional radiologist did a 3 hour procedure to go through his groin and place coils in the aneurysm and also “glue” the capillaries around aneurysm to keep it from growing and leaking. Amazing procedure at Hoag Hospital in CA. Has anyone had anything like this?

I had an interventional radiologist block off a arterial fistula from a bronchial artery to the pulmonary artery by putting a dozen platinum coils in it. He went through the groin via catheters. It was done at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. This was done 1 week prior to open heart surgery because the surgeon wouldn't be able to reach that particular problem without moving the heart. Among other things, I had my aortic root and part of the ascending aorta replaced with an artificial valve and dacron graft. The procedure is known as a Bentall Procedure. That was Sep 2024.
