8 months post cold turkey

I have gotten my 41 year-old son through the last 8 months. There is no rehab here that will accept patients with uncontrolled diabetes so he decided to do it alone. Grand mal seizure... 8 months later he is off Xanax, but has insomnia, constant terrible sweating and chronic vomiting. Could this be related to an extended period of withdrawal?

I wouldn’t want to speculate due to your son’s diabetes. What does his doctor say about this?

I think it's amazing you were able to help your son with his addiction to Xanax, it's a very difficult drug to stop. I'm taking Ativan daily which is another drug in the same family and I've been struggling for years to get away from them but there's not much help available where I live
and the doctor who gave them to me doesn't really want to take responsibility. I must agree with the other comment made, he has diabetes so I'm assuming his doctor was involved with this decision, also, his symptoms have not gone so he's still addicted and walking a fine line. The stress can also raise his blood sugar levels, I truly think he needs another medication to calm down his symptoms otherwise he remains in a vulnerable state that could possibly lead to a relapse.

No one really knows why he’s having these symptoms. It could be his diabetes or something else. He really needs to see a doctor ASAP. Every single symptom we have can’t be chalked off to benzo withdrawal.

He is in constant contact with his supportive primary care. His MD is not sure this is caused by diabetes so I was checking on the most logical alternative.

Insomnia can for sure be attributed to withdrawal. The chronic vomiting is something I wouldn’t attribute to withdrawal. I’m sure his doctor is on top of this disturbing and dangerous symptom. Sweating could be a symptom of a lot of things. Could be with withdrawal.

Hi. So sorry to hear of your struggles. I feel like I know it first hand. I have Type 1, had a seizure from a low and then took myself off of another similar drug. Now battle insomnia and depression in a way that feels very chemical. Try the site Inner Compass. It is a site where you will find others withdrawing from Benz and antidepressants. Has helped me a lot. I don’t feel alone in this anymore. Hugs to you and your son. Bravo for getting this far.
