Anyone with PMR have experience with 4th COVID vax jab?

Posted by klpintx @klpintx, Jan 28, 2022

I just got notification from UTSW that I was eligible to receive my 4th Pfizer vaccine. I was wondering if anyone has does that yet? I have an appointment with my rheumatoligist next week, so I will ask her. But I was just wondering about anyone's experience with this.

I just had the newest booster, so I have had 5 shots. I did not have any side effects from any of them.

Nor will I. I've had the two initial jabs which correlate too closely with the onset of PMR to be a coindence.

The same thing happened with my husband. Two shots and he now has PMR!

My aches and pains started just a couple week after my 3rd Pfizer shot in last December 2021. I did not even know that connection until 9 months later when I had my PMR diagnosis and started researchingd why. In all this time I have been doing physical therapy and getting prednisone shots. My right arm has a rotator cuff full tear, so that did lead me down a different road. But then I had thumb arthritis and a swollen tennis elbow and then carpel tunnel. Seeing a rheumatologist and on 20mg prednisone. Feel like crap.

I am so glad I found this group. It has been really educational and helpful to read about others' experiences with this baffling disease. It seems there is no consensus about cause, treatment, or the course it might take. I have been off Prednisone for about nine days and have been feeling pretty good, then, yesterday I started feeling like I did when I was first diagnosed and had a terrible night of pain. I was really depressed thinking I was not doing as well as I had hoped, and might have to start Prednisone again. Then, I felt better this morning and have felt relatively well all day, although still experiencing some pain and stiffness. I hope everyone dealing with this will make progress and feel better. Thank you to everyone for sharing your experiences.

Does anyone feel just awful on prednisone? I have new PMR diagnosis, with 20 mg and the side effects of prednisone are markedly worse than the pain my shoulders, elbow and wrist/hands. I am taking antacids, but there's a tightness in my chest, or esophagus, then I feel exhausted or spacey. I ended up getting more blood work done from my GP as I am now worried about an onset of diabetes. Any input would be appreciated!!!

I had my 4th Covid Vaccine in May. I did not have any side effects with the Pfizer. My PMR was diagnosed in 2/2021. I am now on a 3/2mg. per day taper with just slightly more stiffness in my hamstrings so mornings tend to be the worst part of the day. I'm hoping that will resolve and I will go to just 2mg for a month or so.

I am on 2.5mgs and it does not totally control the pain. 5mgs will, but I fear some of the side effects as well. At 5mgs, I will gain weight and the bruising is worse. The 2.5 mgs worked fairly well for me until I took a long car ride. Haven't been able to get control back yet. I am afraid to get off prednisone because of the risk of GCA. It that a wrong assumption?

I was advised not to get any vaccine nor any booster. If I get Covid I will need to get the antiviral or antibodies. Anyone gotten either of those?

Have any of you that think your PMR was caused by a covid vaccination gone ahead and had another covid shot?
What were your results?
