Stage 3 Kidney Disease and Diet: What can I eat?

It seems there is very little you can eat that is healthy for the Kidneys. The web site Davida has plenty of food on it but contradicts what other sources say. Anyone know anything for breakfast, lunch and dinner that does not have any sugar or flour bodies the obvious boring or bland foods good for Kidneys and I’m allergic to sugar of any kind of sweetener and flour. Thank you.

@reale Yes, uncontrolled blood pressure is a leading cause of kidney issues, along with diabetes. Are you under the care of a nephrologist for your kidney issues? I take two different blood pressure meds to help control that, to ease the burden on my kidneys.

I will be interested to know what your drs may say the cause of your kidney disease is!

I also was on two diff. Blood pressure meds. Took me of one and said Lisinopril slows blood flow to kidneys, do not no what DRS stands for

@reale DRS is abbreviated for doctors, sorry. Increasing your exercise, watching what you eat, try for less stress/ good rest all can help for your kidney disease, too.

Thank you, I do play pickleball 3 to 4 times a wk. Not sure what I can eat yet chicken and rice cakes and watermelon for snacks,all they told me was I had to much calcium. And thank you for taking time

@luftmensh1 Stages of kidney disease are based on a person's eGFR [estimated glomerular filtration rate]. This level is part of bloodwork done in renal panels. Take a look at you lab report, or get a copy of it, to look it up. Here is a resource to help you understand the ranges for each stage. https://www.uofmhealth.org/health-library/tv7177

Do you know what the cause of your kidney disease is? For some people, it might be from high blood pressure, or diabetes, or a congenital condition. It is important to understand the underlying causes, and have appropriate treatment.

@luftmensh1, You may want to take a look at this discussion and have your email program setup to move all of your incoming Connect emails into one folder. A lot of us have had the same problem you are having with email notifications and setting up a email filter was the answer to fix it. Hope this helps!

There are figures for required minimums and that sort of thing, but my experience is that everyone is different and processes food in their own way and with their own level of efficiency. EGFR is an estimate of your kidneys efficiency. not an absolute, although it may be the best we have. Nine years of dealing with my ESRD has lead me to say that it's a trial and error process. Make changes in your diet, see what your labs say and then make revisions based on your labs.
