1 cm lung cancer tumor with COPD & emphysema: Anxious
Hi: I am 75 years old and recently diagnosed with emphysema copd and 1 cm nodule that grew 1mm since last year and solidified. I had a pet scan that proved positive for cancer.
My pcp is optimistic that a VATS will take care of the growth as he has determined the copd and emphysema are mild. I typically walk 2 miles mostly up hill almost everyday and am able to breathe quite easily and do all that I need to do.
I am hopefully having a video visit with UPMC surgeon who is highly respected
I am experiencing extreme general anxiety and have been reading many of the comments on here and so appreciate all of you writing about your concerns, success and troubles.
Thank you

Gustavo:
How thoughtful of you to write. I cannot thank you enough for thinking of me. Your verbs were just fine. More importantly I could feel the beat of your caring and loving heart. You are a man who speaks the language of the heart.
I have everything I need. Whatever happens happens. I have seen it all. There is only one day, the day called today.
My fervent gratitude for your gracious words.
Frank
Frank…. I have prayed for you and your surgery yesterday!!!
Hopefully all went well and you are on the road for recovery!!!!
Please whenever you are up to it let us know how you are. Your story and sweet nature led a lot of us to follow you and try to help you…each in our own special ways. I feel sure many many prayer were said for you and many others wished you a safe and speedy recovery in their own way!!!
A LOT OF US CARE!!!
HI lou:
Thank you for taking the time to write such kind and uplifting words. It makes me feel significant.
The surgery went from what I hear. There are not enough drugs on the planet to.manage the pain. The bed i am sleeping in is beyond uncomfortable. I am not allowed food. I have been nauseous and uncomfortable.
All of that being said, I am having the tine of my life
Lots and lots of lovely people stop by to see me and chat. My health is better. The pain drugs are great with the exception that they do nothing for pain.
It also gives me the opportunity to read lovely notes from all of you. I am just so thrilled that you would take the time to write and pray for me.
I love all of you because you are all so loveable.
Frank
Tell them you need a different pain reliever. There is no reason for you to be in significant pain!!!
It is sooo soon after surgery, I promise you are almost finished with the absolute worst of it .
Please remember what i told you about taking your pain meds at home on time and don’t miss a single dose!!!!
Fella you made it easy for so many of us to care about you!!!! Special man!!!!
Thank you for the kind words as usual . keep us updated
Actually they are trying different things and I think they may have hit on it..
It is awfully nice of the people on here to be so helpful to me. I Look forward to reading what people on here are thinking about and experiencing
Loads of.love to all
@franki24 , I'm so excited to hear from you!, it's very early. But I am glad your team is addressing the pain. Hopefully that gets under control. We're all hoping that you continue to feel better.
One day at a time. Take care.
Hi Lisa; nice.to hear from you. The staff at this hospital could not be attentive caring and fun
They have made this a delight. I have to keep reminding myself it has only been a day.
At the moment I have no pain at all and going for a walk with a nurse inhave befriended. Tomorrow or maybe tonight I will transfer out of ICU TO a room for one day and then be discharged.
How are you doing and feeling Lisa?
Love
Frank.
@franki24, I'm so glad that you are feeling better! Walking is great news too!
I'm doing well. I had lung CT scans a couple of weeks ago, and I'm stable with a 1 cm fungal nodule, no cancer is visible. My lung oncologist loves to call me boring, and I'll take it! After seeing him every 3-4 months for nearly five years we can tease each other a bit.
I also have breast cancer, so I'm working through the information that goes along with some of the hormone therapies. That's a learning experience, but it's coming along, and going as well as expected. I healed really well from surgery at the end of November.
I'm feeling good. I was at my local YMCA for both a spin/cycling class and a mindfulness class this morning.
It's great to hear that your team of nurses are taking good care of you. Get some rest.
Hello Frank. It makes me very happy to read you and even happier to know that the procedure went well.
Here in my country there is a painkiller called Tramadol for this type of post-surgical pain, I'm going to find out the drug or compound perhaps and they will probably have it available there as well.
I send you a big hug, and we are thinking of you. Keep recovering, we stay in touch. Big hug.
Gustavo (sorry for my English)

My Boring Friend Lisa.
Thank you for being the rock of rationality and reason for everyone when perspective is lost and emotions are hot.
You are a pearl of a woman.
