Hello! I too have CHF and it's tricky to try and lose weight while also balancing fluid levels. The best way I have found is by calorie counting. Ask your doctor how many calories you should stay under. I realize this sounds like you would be starving but if you make fruits and vegetables a large part of your diet, you'd be surprised how full you feel for longer periods of time. Cutting out sugar helped a LOT, and foods that cause inflammation, a 3rd thing to make one's pants fit tighter (fat, fluid, then inflammation are what I'm referring to). Invest in a high power blender like a Nutribullet or Ninja and make a smoothie for breakfast. Just today I ordered a juicer so I'm going to give that a try. Last piece of advice I've found that helped me is to eat as much as I can at home. This way I know what's in my food as far as sodium, butter etc. Best wishes.

Good advice from sunshine53...I would also add salt is your worst enemy, especially with eating out. Make those occasions few and far between as well as buying processed, package foods, i.e. frozen pizza, Burger King, regular deli meats, etc. - Salt causes the body to retain fluid and with CHF that is the last thing you want! So avoid the salt! Cardiologists like the Mediterranean Diet all around.
Fasting and juicing is now not getting the good attention it had for those with major health issues. Sure, if you are 35 years old, want to lose weight and in excellent health...OK but in my humble opinion not a good option for you. I would simply go with the protein drinks on the market...i.e. Boost, Ensure but be sure it's with 30 grams of protein. I don't know your age, but as we age, protein at every meal is a must! When food shopping buy all low sodium - even cans of veggies come in low salt. But must look for them. And for sure, cut out the bread. Cut out the whites: White bread, pasta, potatoes and rice. Does your treatment team offer nutritional consultations? It should if it is cardiology. Make an appointment for such and you will get a wealth of knowledge about food choices with CHF. Just decreasing the amount of "carbs" you consume will drop some pounds also. Calorie counting is too time consuming and actually annoying to me. I do "portion control" and just recently lost 12 pounds (I am 68 w/heart disease also). I eat good foods (almost everything I like) BUT the portions are very small, like for a little child. My snacks at night are 6 petite raw carrots, 1 stalk of celery to crunch on. Maybe a couple of dried prunes.
Cup of decaffeinated herbal tea (maybe) with 1 splenda (no sugar). No brainer, no baked goods but I might literally have 2 bites of a piece of cake once in awhile My breakfast is the same every day - 1 cup of low fat Greek yogart, some sliced almonds, berries, 1 celery stick and maybe a hard boiled egg. Veggies at lunch w/a protein.
My main advice is the portion control, avoid all salt and an consultation with a registered dietician...which I feel is an absolute must and should be offered with your cardiology team. If they don't have one, shame on them!
Maybe you need a new cardiologist if not(??) And 1 more thing, with CHF resting is important...not only for the heart but will cause you to "pee" more and, thus, get rid of excess fluids. So try to get in nap time on your bed. Don't fall asleep in the chair...laying down is best for the kidneys to expel fluids. All the best to you. You can do this and live your very best life despite your condition! All is NOT lost! Only different now.
