Feeling overwhelmed

Posted by laura42 @laura42, Dec 1, 2023

Do any of you ever feel like you just can’t do it as anymore. I take care of my beloved mother in law. Today I gave her the bed time meds instead of am ones. Feel like a failure because she is zoned out majority because of meds in bed time pills. Just feel lost today and discouraged.

I agree with Colleen, how are you TODAY? If that's the worst thing that happens, then we are OK! You are a human and we all make mistakes. And it might do her good to have a restful day. I had everything 100% organized etc.... and I think the stress of trying to be perfect blew up in my face! I'm exhausted, feeling unorganized and I found myself hounding my husband. In my quest for perfection, I was causing him more stress. "Are you sure?" "You're positive?" Then when he would say he was sick and couldn't eat, I would start rattling things off like I had a 4 page menu....... Relax and know you are doing a great job, because there are so many that don't have family. You are kind and generous and I'm sure very appreciated.

Every single, excuse my language, phucking day sadly. My mental health is 10 x worse since I started caring for my mother 82 ys with bad demitia and becoming less and less moble. I suffer soooo bad, some days I really wish I was not here🥹

I'm so sorry you feel this way today. Have you tried getting some emotional support for yourself? Talking to someone who can support you? Do you have a faith foundation you can seek for a support as well? Taking care of you is important. You are worth it to. Most communities have respite services through their office on aging or her health plan. Just an hour or two to allow you to take a walk or have a quiet meal could be so helpful for you.
Praying you can find some encouragement and that your heart feels lifted in the midst of all you are doing for your mother.

She is blessed to have you. Be tender with yourself. Your acts of love as a caregiver make you an extraordinary gift to your mother in law.

Mother. She’s been in independent living facility for 3 yrs. But a very negative person. Nothing is good. Had to stay with us for two weeks after a hospital procedure and I almost lost my mind. 🤪
