PVCs after covid infection- Do they go away?

Posted by burke5500 @burke5500, Jan 29, 2023

I was infected with Covid in January of 21 and January of 22. Three weeks after my infection I started having pvcs. Has anyone else experienced them? Is there relief? Do they go away? Two years for me now.

@pestilent1 Can you clarify - you had COVID 3 years ago, having PVCs since, and had a heart attack after COVID? I have these same symptoms and the only thing that takes it away is the beta blocker I’m on that we’ve titrated up from 25mcg to now 175mcg. Toprol XL. They tell me it’s my autonomic nervous system inappropriately giving a fight or flight response causing cardiac issues. Every time I go to ER it’s just a rhythm that isn’t normal but not needing “fixed”.

My husband finally ended up with AFIB and a cardio version was done. The AFIB didn't stay gone, but his heartbeat slowed down to a proper speed and he is better. For autonomic calming, look at EFT Tapping, intentional breathing.

I have had long Covid for 3.5 years. PVCs were one of my first symptoms. They were not bad at first, but slowly increased to an average of 15-20% of my heartbeats. At that point my cardiologist started me on Flecainide. First at 50mg twice a day, which made no noticeable difference. At 100mg twice a day the PVCs dropped to 5% or so. Then, six months ago, I got Covid again, and took molnuvirapir. This is an alternative Covid antiviral, since I couldn’t take paxlovid because it interacts with flecainide. The molnuvirapir all but eliminated the PVCs. I had zero arrhythmias at my latest treadmill stress test, even with going 10bpm above my target. I have reduced the flecainide back down to 50mg twice a day, and feel only occasional PVCs (which I also monitor with my Apple Watch). The molnuvirapir also improved other long Covid symptoms. Once I get off flecainide I plan to try paxlovid to see if it helps.

me since June 2030
But my obvs went away.
So did severe fatigue.

Now? Dizzy spells although that's not a good term It's more like almost passing out but never quite getting that far
tinnitus 24/7
swollen prostate (had that before Covid but now dramatically worse)

mild atrial fib replaced PVC

memory issues

I can still think. I'm a software guy and I can still write code but I can't remember feces

Had Covid in the June 2024 timeframe and in August, I developed PVCs. Saw a cardiologist and was told it's very common and not to worry especially when there's no chest pain. Then a few days ago, I was prescribed antibiotics Cephalexin to prevent possible infections after a skin procedure. Did not know I was allergic to this antibiotics and suffered severe lower abdominal pain, hives all over my body and legs, along with mild chest pain with stronger PVCs. Not sure what to do about it.

Make sure you have your medical records reflect that you have an allergy to the antibiotic. You might want to ask about wearing a zio patch, a two week heart monitor. I’ve had pvcs and pacs for decades that became symptomatic after my June 2024 covid infection. I now have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. I’m pretty sure my pvcs are really PACS that are aberrantly conducted and act and look like PVCs. Covid caused my left atrium to get huge and gave me moderate mitral regurgitation, which started to improve in September. My regurgitation is gone now. My Novavax shot helped me a lot, my shingles shot set me back 2 weeks. Chest pain can be a big deal.

Thank you! I'll be sure to let my doc have this info in my medical records.

I had Covid in February 2024 and my heart started having Arrhythmias and I had an ablation in August . I had to make a trip to the ER and they had me wear a heart monitor for two weeks and found out that I was throwing PACS and PVCS
with a Normal Sinus and I had already been on Eliquis and a beta blocker . Any thoughts ?

Adding to this older thread but curious for input. I am questioning my current health state like many of you. My Covid was back in 2021 and had both boosters that year and following. No issues at that time. Great health at 65 and gym x3/week. End of 2025 had DVT with followup confirmed APS antibodies. Recently in 2026, I was hit by flu with long term lower airway heavy cough every 5 mins. Persistent cough x12 weeks and in this period I have had 3 multi-day runs of pvcs; latest round with chest pain. Luckily PCP visit captured all on EKG, so now the echo and cardiology visits will begin. I did not confirm if flu was Covid, H2.., or subklad K variant. In this same time period, first time starting on different low dose BP meds.... so my initial thought is BP meds causing this... but like many here question now whether flu is base culprit here. ??? for many of you here, did anyone just naturally resolve the premature contractions or did most of you require cardio meds, etc?

I started having PVCs, in February 2022, after a mild case of Covid. Have had them off and on since then, seems they usually almost entirely go away in late spring and summer (more active outside) and return in late fall through winter. Also have seen anecdotal occurrences in fall of 2022 and 2023 a week after Covid booster, so have not had a booster since. Had bypass surgery in 2024 after that very few PVCs until 2 months ago. Dr. put me on Metoprolol low dose (12.5 X 2/day) as they had in 2022 and 2023, but only seems to increase them now, just like in 2022 and 2023. AI tells me that 20 to 25% of patients on Metoprolol who are slow-heart-rate- dependent, meaning the PVCs occur mostly when heart is already resting, Metoprolol actually may increase PVCs as it provides more space and opportunity for PVCs to occur.

Trying to get through to a doctor to see if okay to go off Metoprolol, but can't get an appointment to see MD or EP PA for another 4 months, don't want to wait that long, but there are road blocks at the clinic in every way trying to contact MD or EP PA, whether thru My Chart or telephone, as MDs & EP PAs at my clinic don't see the My Chart messages just the nurses do and they say go to a Walk In Clinic if having issues, as the clinic is too busy.

My prior experience is a generalist PA who usually man Walk in clinics don't have the knowledge to deal with these issues. So trying to figure out another way of contacting a knowledgeable PA EP or MD cardiologist, as I would rather they tell me its ok to go off Metoprolol, rather than just doing it, as I also had a stent put in the same artery that was bypassed 2 years ago, which seems to have made the PVCs reoccur. Anybody have suggestions?
