Weight Loss Surgery?

Posted by cjberg62 @cjberg62, Dec 22, 2023

My physician has recently suggested weight loss surgery. I have Diabetes Type 2, Severe Sleep Apnea and High Blood Pressure. I am 70lbs overweight. Everyone I have talked with don't think I need the surgery, but my doctor is really pushing it for me, as she believes I will be able to get off all medications and Insulin and CPAP. What do you all recommend.

It is worth having a consult to see what your options are. There are different type of weight loss surgery.

I had a gastric sleeve in 2012. It was the best decision for me. Within hours of having the surgery, my blood sugar was normal (and still continues to be.) If losing the 70 pounds will help with these issues, then get the surgery unless you decide to lose the weight on your own. I had tried EVERY diet imaginable before my surgery. Good luck with your decision.

I had RNY bypass. Best decision ever. 320 to 180 and keeping it off

@cjberg62, I agree with @roch. There are several weight loss management options. Given your multiple chronic conditions, it would be wise to get a second opinion. You want to be comfortable with your decision, especially when it may involve surgery.

If you would like to seek a second opinion at Mayo Clinic, there are several locations in AZ, FL, MN and WI. You'll find more information about requesting an appointment on this webpage http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63

I look forward to learning what you decide. The conditions you manage can be eased with good weight management.

I had the gastric bypass and I am all for it however now they have other medications available for weight loss (and T2 diabetes) they did not have when I hasld decided on surgery. Please research the T2 diabetes medication Mounjaro which works awesome for my A1C but also is a weight loss medication that works awesome for most and it now approved for weight loss (Called Mounjaro for T2 diabetes and Zepbound for weight loss). If this was out in 2016 I would have never had WLS. I wish you all the"best!!

Roux-En-Y Gastric bypass in 2005 - 357# down to #174 - and have kept it off AWESOME; however, I'd give ANYTHING to be #357 again and not have all the health issues I now have. Deficiencies on so many levels, my teeth have corroded and fallen out, now needing dentures in my 40s. Just SO MANY issues caused specifically from having the surgery... Lost my gallbladder, have leaky gut syndrome, have about half the hair I used to have, which is traumatic for me... and on and on....I know things have gotten better since then... But, PLEASE do not get it if you don't have ANY other options. So many surgeries are truthfully just doctors playing God and just removing and changing around parts that He created to work in a particular way. I just suggest you do your research and look into supplements and possible exercise that may benefit you better than a surgery - especially given that you only have 70# to take off. You're doctor can suggest something, but you do not have to accept that as the end all be all. I know I sound negative... It's only because I care and hope to help people if I can. If there's anything I can help you research or can help answer any further questions... Please don't hesitate to ask. I just made a terrible decision and it worked very well for losing weight... But I did not sign on for all the terrible circumstances it left me with and it's extremely hard and miserably sad what I've been left with to deal with afterward. I wish the very best for you and any who may be reading this. Just do your homework. It can save that a lot of heartache!

Exactly why I went with a sleeve V bypass. I never took the calcium supplements , wondering if I should start? x ray of my wrist found vascular soft tissue deposits.
