Phlegm in my throat and post nasal drip after Covid

Posted by danny2022 @danny2022, Dec 18, 2022

Ever since I had covid in January of 2022 I recovered from the virus but I was left with a constant phlegm in the back of my throat and post nasal drip that will not go away. The feeling of having mucus in the back of my throat actually gets worse when I try to get rid of it by coughing. I have been given steroid inhalers, albuterol, allergy medication, but none of these work. The mucus gets worse especially after I eat. I've never felt like this before and it all started after covid. Can anybody relate to what I am going through?

1t’s almost 1:00 a,m. and I just awoke due to a burnibg throat….again. I’m taking Pepcid twice a day and eating right. Still, I’m awakened during the night ablotbwith a burning throat. Even propped up. Man….there is constant congestion in my throat. I’m not sure what more to do. Maybe, acupuncture is the best option at the point.

I'm so sorry celia16. Yeah acupuncture is not cost effective. It really sucks that it's not covered.

Just reporting back as I lay here in bed 12 hours after second session. Sinuses feel dry, no mucus in throat. It's definitely helping.

One of the needles they placed last night was in my left ear and I HEARD something happening inside my head. Kind of crazy. They're stimulating that vagus nerve.

Will continue to update.

I had a second bout with Covid in June 2022 (vaxxed and boosted).
I developed a post nasal drip and it has never gone away. This has fostered sinus infections and bronchitis. Debilitating headaches.
I was put on several rounds of antibiotics, acid reflux meds, allergy meds, daily sinus rinses (with and without bedenoside).
Nothing has worked. The best I can do is take hot showers to relieve the sinus pressure and headaches.
My ENT doctors have been unable to help, and have not really taken the Covid connection seriously.
I feel like I am at the end of my rope. It is maddening and has adversely affected my life.
I am hopeful that this can be figured out soon.
Thank you, all of you, for this forum. Before finding this, I felt totally alone with these symptoms. The docs can’t deal with the Covid connection. They don’t know how.

I too developed Extreme Post Nasal Drip. I started taking a supplement recommended by my chiropractor called Antronex made by Standard Process. It cleared it up in a couple of months, starting working in about a week, but took awhile to totally clear it up. I took 3 tablets morning and night until my symptoms seemed under control and then tapered down until now I only take 1 tablet a day or even every other day. Keeps it under control, soon I'll try to not take it at all and see if I don't need it anymore. Here is a link to a page on their website where you can put in your zip code and it will list locations where you can purchase it at.

I believe it was $58 for the large bottle of 330 tablets, so not too expensive for you to try.

It was explained to me that acupuncture treats the whole body. They try to get things in balance. At least that was my understanding. I didn’t notice anything during the sessions. I just noticed how gradually my eyes felt better. A day without eye pain is such a blessing.

@ biggsy that's so interesting, my acupuncturist is also targeting points to increase circulation to the liver as he believes that's what's causing me grief.

Sounds right along with the Chiropractic thinking, Chiro says problems with the liver exacerbate as issues with the sinuses like post nasal drip.

Since we all have similar symptoms, I'd be curious to know if people in this group still get the COVID vaccine? I'm supposed to get my shot on Monday and I don't think I've had any reactions to previous vaccines, but I'm feeling nervous today.

Also I'm happy to report the combo of the Antronex and acupuncture left me feeling 95% normal today! Noticeably less mucus in my throat (I was hacking stuff up all day just a few days ago)

This whole thread absolutely amazes me at how similar my symptoms are to so many of you all. Yet the doctors have no idea what's going on with me or any of you and it's frustrating. I keep showing my wife these articles and she just kind of looks it away but I wake up with a burning throat not to sit up and take Tums and then an hour later take Tums and the burning throat creates a tachycardia type of almost heart palpitation feeling so I set up for 2 hours and then I fall back asleep at like 5:00 a.m. just have to get up at 6:00 a.m. and go to work it's super frustrating and I'm like constantly swallowing thick mucus but nothing comes up I'm snorting in the back of my nose and my throat like a pig all day long clearing my throat sometimes a slight cough. Constant pressure in my head my eyes are burning every day like an allergy but I'm allergy free and my eyes water constantly like I wipe my eyes because they water and then my eyes start burning and become red for me wiping them. When I take a deep breath I can breathe fine but there's a type of tightness in my chest like I have a cold but I don't. Might have to try acupuncture as well

That’s great! I am exploring that combo. I have to create more time and funds in my budget for the acupuncture.

i got my covid booster over a week ago and I haven’t noticed anything unusual. My throat congestion may be a tad better. 😳. My smell receptors seem to be more active, though they still struggle with accuracy. I’m working on smell training daily.

Sounds good! I just got my vaccine yesterday and so far so good.

Post nasal drip is back after 4 days of relief 🫣. But have another acupuncture appointment today. They said it will take multiple times to relieve it, so I'm not losing hope!

It'll be interesting to see if I get relief again on the next round.
