Traveling to New Zealand & Australia with Bronchiectasis

Posted by sara10 @sara10, Nov 30, 2023

After not traveling much for several years we are planning a long trip to NZ and Australia and I am anxious about maintaining my daily airway clearance.
I read the power in NZ is 240 V, so I am wondering which is best compressor to take for the daily saline treatments. It has to have dual voltage. Not sure about Australia.
My Pari is too big and heavy and luggage has to be kept to a manageable size for my trip. I use the big Pari with the Aerobica XL for about 20 min. At home.
As far as cleaning and sterilizing equipment I saw getting a collapsible drizzle pot - have to investigate - or maybe a sterilizer bag for baby equipment?
Some of the hotel rooms have a kitchenette but we are traveling around quite a bit in NZ.
Any other suggestions?
So grateful for this supportive community and any advice you can give.

@sara10, Wow, sounds like a fabulous trip! Travel with bronchiectasis is something I think about and this is what I've learned; I'm certain it's not an exhaustive list. Also, there are other very useful threads on traveling and maintaining equipment so be sure to search the site. There's a conversation recently that provided really good 1st hand knowledge with international travel so be sure check that out!

PARi Sprint portable people like but I've read that it can be slow. The people at Nebology are very helpful, perhaps you could run the power thing by them.

Some people use microwave bags and/or drizzle pot for sterilizing. I've read pros and cons of drizzle pot. Maybe purchase it and try it out at home first. There's also a portable ramen pot I've read about, sometimes mixed. Microwave bags are convenient but you'll need a microwave access, of course.

Another portable nebulizer is the PARi eRapid. It's pricey but silent and fast, less than 5 minutes for 4ml of saline and it's very light. It leaves behind 1ml of saline.

The instructions say to boil after every use or use Control III disinfectant. I soak mine in hot soapy water and air dry. After its p.m. use, I pop it in baby bottler sterilizer (not good for travel I know) but you could boil it. It has metal so not microwave safe.
