Thoughts on Rexulti for anxiety in dementia
My mother is extremely anxious and almost every day tells me she’s done something terrible that she hasn’t done. Has anyone seen results with Rexulti to reduce anxiety? Any other suggestions?

Hi @catmac, My husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2019. I knew something was amiss at least two years earlier. He was prone to anxiety and kind of obsessive/compulsive, engaging in ritualized behavior. It took him all day to get the garbage ready for the next day because he had to break everything down, e.g., tear all pieces of paper into smaller pieces. He did worry a lot.
I spoke to his neurologist. He'd been on Donepezil for a couple of years, so the doc took him off that and prescribed citalopram, an antidepressant, 20 mg once a day. He's been taking it a few years now and is doing well. When I asked him how he felt, a while after taking the citalopram, he said it felt like a weight had been taken off his shoulders.
I don't know anything about Rexulti.
Probably best to discuss with your mom's doctor to determine what medication is best for her.
All the best, Teri
@catmac It must be so difficult to see your mother with severe anxiety due to the disease and not be able to do anything. Was she just prescribed the resulting or has she been on it for a while?
Did the doctor or pharmacist give you any written information when the Rexulti was first prescribed?
I agree with @tsc that talking to her doctor is your best plan. Can you contact them this week?
