Has anyone had dietary success with C-diff?
It is my understanding that the bad bacteria in C-diff are fed by sugar and that Vancomycin kills both good and bad bacteria.
Has anyone been told to replenish the good bacteria by taking probiotics? Or been told to follow a low-carbohydrate diet in order to starve the bad bacteria?
Searching for a more natural way to control recurrent C-diff.
Thanks for any suggestions,
Elaine

Hello
I got Cdiff after taking Augmentin to treat diverticulitis. They put me on Vancomyacin twice in a row to help treat it as it occurred twice. While I am now a permanent carrier of Cdiff, the active infection is gone. One probiotic that helped wa Florastor and it was recommended by my amazing GI doc. While on the Vancomyacin, I was taking two tablets twice a day. Now, I just take one in the morning and one in the evening as my daily probiotic. It looks like this probiotic has enough proven clinical research to be effective. It is a bit pricey but worth it. Also eating low fat, low sugar yogurt such as Greek or lactose free is also good for your gut.

Thank you SO much for your quick response, Colleen Young.
Am about to check out resources you have just sent.
It's nice to know that knowledgeable people care.
Colleen, thank you for that re-post from rr in 1967.
I just spoke to a retired RN in my apt. bldg. who had had C-diff twice in 2015. Her Gastro Dr. had also suggested Florastor. She still takes it & has been symptom-free ever since.
Am looking into this.
Thanks for the re-posted tip.

Hello,
I also got C-diff after taking an antibiotic and was put on Vancomycin for 10 days four times daily. The day
after I stopped I had a recurrence. I am now near the end of a tapering of Vancomycin. One capsule, 4X per day for 10 days, then one capsule twice a day for seven days, then one capsule a day for seven days, then one capsule every other day for 14 days. I am near the end now with 2 capsules left. I have been drinking Kefir and Kombucha daily and eating sugar free yogurt. I did try Florastor but stopped because it gave me a stomach ache.
Hi mabbs24,
Thank you so much for your reply.
Someone suggested Forastor, but I was hesitant, bc the Sacc. Boulardii works differently in our systems (as I understand it).
I have been taking "Garden of Life Probiotic for Women, 40 Billion,"which was suggested by my GP. It has a variety of Lactobacillus cultures (30 Billion) and Bifidobacterium (10 Billion, plus Organic Potato and Acacia Fiber. I haven't had any stomach issues with this so far (on it for over a year).Maybe this would help you?
Hope your current protocol works for you.
Do you eat Greek or another type of yoghurt?
Thanks again,
Elaine
Hi Elaine,
Thank you so much for your response. I definitely will look into the Garden of Life Probiotic. I think those cultures would be less harsh on my stomach along with the added fiber. I am eating Chobani Sugar free yogurt
while I'm still on Vancomycin. It was the only one I found that was sugar free. I usually eat the Chobani Greek
which I hope to get back to soon.
I am looking forward to getting back to normal! C-Diff is horrible!

I had Antibiotic resistant CDIFF and ended up getting a FMT. Kiefer has worked for me since 2014.
