No sleep or sleep meds

Posted by cherawgirl @cherawgirl, Sep 15, 2023

I have been unable to sleep since stopping Ambien (5 months ago) and Ativan(2 months ago). I have not slept for over 2 hours a night. I understand I supposedly have rebound insomnia, however I have had a sleep problem since I was very young. I have researched this question on the web but only found answers that sleep aids ARE BAD!

My question is: What is worse? No sleep or sleep using sleep meds?

UPDATE: After 1 month of Lunesta it is sorta working. It doesn’t keep me asleep all night, but the sleep I get is quality. My Apple Watch sleep app shows all three stages of sleep in stages. Ambien just puts me in a coma with no dreaming, Lunesta allows dreaming, maybe too much! Thing is, I feel like it needs a helper/assist. So I tried .5 mg of clonazepam and my night sleep was wonderful. I tried same with Ativan but it did not work as well. I really don’t want to have to take a benzo as I just stopped Ativan after 10 yrs of use, plus worry that .5 will turn into more due to tolerance. Seeing Dr. next week. Hope to find my perfect sleep solution soon. I feel I’m getting close. Summary: Lunesta is a good sleep aid but could be better.

People with sleep issues may need to consider trying ashwagandha and time-released melatonin 30 minutes before bedtime. I have had insomnia for years and this seems to help. There is some research on this which seems to be positive for many people.

Chuckie, how much ashwagandha are you taking? I’ve read that 300 mg is a good dosage. I will like to add this to my sleep arsenal. I had been using CBD tincture, but the third bottle doesn’t seem as effective. I tried taurine, and it did absolutely nothing to help with sleep.

Neither are good, I recommend you check out a six week course through the Cleveland clinic. It costs $40 and helped me a lot with my insomnia. It's called " Go to Sleep". You can sign up on Cleveland clinic's website. Good luck.

No sleep 💤 is worse in my opinion.
I now take 10 mg Ambien nightly . Used to be 5 mg for years .
I break in half and take 5 mg before bed and 5 mg at like midnight when I first wake up .
Works better than taking 10 mg all at once . Then I wake 4 hrs later and can’t take anything else to get back to sleep 💤.
