What's outside of your picture window today?

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Nov 25, 2020

As we get ready for the real winter to show up and COVID-19 still playing a major part in our lives I like to spend moments of my day de-stressing about what's going on in the world today. All I have to do is look out the window and observe some of natures beautiful creatures, how they interact and ponder how small it makes my troubles seem. Sometimes I may even get the opportunity to take a photo or two. How about you? Anything going on outside of your window(s) that you want to share?

For those members that have the ability to size your photos before you upload them to the discussion, may I suggest using the following sizes:
– 500 x 335 pixels (landscape)
– 210 x 210 pixels (square)

Love all the bird photos!

I just went to a drive through safari zoo in Texas where you can hand feed all the domesticated wild animals as you drive through. We fed zebras, camels, reindeer, bison, Scottish highland cows, giraffe, deer, sheep, antelope, ostriches and more. They all put their heads in our car windows, took food gently as we petted each one. We were the only ones there that day and bought buckets and buckets of veggie pellets. It was 3 hours of pure joy!!!

Hello, all my fun Connect friends. Iv written 3 messages for you and all disappeared after the survey popped up...frustrating, but I'll get it done! Determined woman I am!

I'm attaching some new pictures of my NEW rescue plant babies I just got from my garden center. They were being tossed soon, marked down just for me to save them. I can't stand to see a plant doing poorly, most often from simple neglect or such. My heart ❤️ hurts for them....so, now, again, I'm bringing some home to love.

One is a den rhodium orchid, a Vanda orchid, another orchid not sure of name, but I love it in a moss ball...silver dragon...I tried, watered, soaked and now, after only 3 days, there thriving! I'm so happy!

My son and I are progressing well at this moment, with new pain treat.ents for him, consistent treatments from a newly proactive pain doctor, and he has a new Hematologist at Mayo who's fantastic, is taking him on as an interesting case and I'mthrilled!

My health is amazingly 👏 improved, I'm adjusting and liking my new normal. Doing well, folks and looking for good years ahead. Truly amazing!!!

Off to church...1st Thanksgiving celebration for my son and me in 20 years!!!!
Lunch at church! With friends who've stood by and supported us all this time. God is wonderful!!!

Happy day to all. Blessings, Elizabeth

That is one big tree outside of the window Elizabeth. Looks like they had to saw one of the branches off. So glad to hear your son is doing better and that you get to spend Thanksgiving with him. Hoping you have a blessed week Elizabeth!

Yes, dear John. That's my bived live oak tree with Spanish moss, housing sev R al squirrel nests, lots of birds, occasional owl and many views or nature. It's about 50 years old, still a youth as our live oaks go. We have ma y in Jacksonville over 200 years old and doing well.

Since in in a condo, the tree had to have some pruning to allow large truck deliveries. I fought some removal, and understand these. I'm the tree protector on our property!
This I'd my daily morning, tally all day view from my upstairs bedroom. I've begun last several months keeping my drapes fully open to the world, except when dressing...
This is a wonderful way to open myself to nature,to the world, not close off anx hibernate as I've done for years! Truly growth. Healthy.

Happy Thanksgiving to you!!!!

Fancis, I love your rescue plants from the dump! Is it an aloe plant? It looks like an aloe flower to me??? Love it!

Blessings,
Elizabeth

This little fellow was at the mailroom a few days ago, and I just had to take a photo, which I may now use as a theme for a new painting. They are such beautiful insects, and so friendly.

Well since I am feeling liberated today, I have decided to share a portion of my succulent garden, as well as a picture of myself on Halloween so that you all know that I am indeed, a real person. Thanks to all of you for being my lifeline to sanity.

John, I gave my glorious live oak tree more thought and here are a couple of pictures to give you better idea of this tree.

This property o n which my condominium buildings are built, was northern Florida swamp land. In the early 1970s, these buildings were built by filling the swamp with 'fill'. I am still in a flood zone, 3 areas are and do have some flooding during storms. We're addressed these issues with burms, bringing in rip rap and filling at the back of the property where we have drainage, a small creek flowing beside, behind the property to the St. John's River to the Atlantic.
Part of that creek area is preserved land and can't be built on...goody.

There were many water oak trees that have now aged out and we removed. They've a good life for 25-35 years. We have loblolly, bay, live oak, palm of various sorts, magestic and flowering southern magnolia...Red maple were planted that have lived out their lifespans as well. E
We had lovely dogwood trees. Gone! A blight hit several years ago a wiped out our many dogwoods.

All those trees are native to North Florida.
The live oaks left here by the builders must have been large enough to be worthy of saving and strong enough to survive, about 25-50 years old, not so large as to make building costly.

The pictures of this one I suppose show it to be 100 years old +.

Enjoy..and blessings. Elizabeth
