I've had a significant amount of weight gain since my stroke in June. Most I've ever weighed. Yes, I am seeing a nutritionist. I am so fatigued all of the time, not sleepy. Getting more blood work done to look at hormone levels. I'm not lazy, just lost interest in things. And I do not dream anymore. I used to have vivid colorful dreams every night. I kind of started using my dreams to process and plan my days.
I sleep well. I'm not sleepy but always feel fatigue. I'm never starving, but now have eaten more sugary snacks. I was never a real "sweets" person before stroke. More savory.
After my stroke, I lost weight. Mostly it was because I felt so terrible I didn't want to eat. Initially, I lost about 35 pounds.
I slowly gained most of it back, but my weight stabilized about 10-15 pounds less than my pre-stroke weight.
It would probably be less than that, but I am in constant pain, and eating is the only thing I do that doesn't hurt.
Anyway, fatigue is a very common issue for stroke patients. It's taking forever for me to get my endurance back -- but it is happening.
Have you considered talking with a counselor or other therapist? It's done me a world of good. A stroke is a traumatic brain injury by definition, and trauma is so much more than just a physical event.
Best wishes on your recovery. I know it's a long journey. Hang in there!
I had a huge migraine for several days. But I don't' remember feeling anything. I just woke up suddenly early in the morning. I rolled over to the floor and remember thinking this is weird, I can't get my left arm to work. I couldn't get it under me to push myself back up. I actualy started working and mentioned it to my boss and she made me go to the hospital. She called my son to get me.
Yes, I had a stroke this last June, a big clot was removed and I do have a few deficits like word retrieval and balance. My husband is beginning to show some signs of dementia, we are helping each other but it's not easy. Our children live far away and live busy lives . We are both in our eighties
Like you, I too had no idea I was having a stroke
My only symptom was “pins and needles” in one foot
that wouldn’t go away
Then, I tried to get up and walk and I couldn’t stand on my left leg. Finally called my dr, who told me to call an ambulance.. that I was having a stroke. An mri showed that I had been having mini strokes for some time
