MAC & dental waterpiks

Posted by cmi @cmi, Nov 10, 2023

Friends,
When I go for my dental cleanings, I do bring my own spring water bottle to rinse & spit. My question is does anyone have reservations on using waterpik at home with caution not to swallow any water? I do not suffer from reflux and I also am maintaining….meaning no cultures and bronchiectasis was unchanged on this years Scan (currently no meds, and mediating with lots of alternative modalities…saltroom therapy, HIIT exercise, breathing exercises, 7% saline & Aerobika, infrared sauna and good diet…weight stable).
Would love to hear your thoughts.
Regina

My oral surgeon and dentist both are against water picks and electric toothbrushes because they claim that they push bacteria up under the gums. This is their theory at least. They claim there is no reliable study showing they prevent cavities more than brushing and flossing. Just an opinion. I have some dental implants so I just brush and floss and no problems at all for over 10 years.

My dentist and our friend who is a retired dentist agree with you. Furthermore, 25 years ago, my ENT said that the WaterPik was contributing to my recurrent sinus infections. When I stopped, the frequency did decrease by half.

wow that's interesting re the Sinus infections. I'm glad there are others who agree with my dentists and if you think about it it does make sense.

I use a water pik everyday and for my last two dental visits I had no plaque and did not need a cleaning because there was nothing to clean, I don’t agree that water piking pushes bacteria under the gums.
