Pain in the butt - Can't sit down

Posted by ecalderman @ecalderman, Nov 21, 2012

I have had very intense pain at my sitz bones for over 7 months and am unable to sit down. when I sit, it feels like I am sitting on two hot pokers or rocks and it is really unbearable. So, I have been standing for seven months. I've been to a couple of spine and pain management doctors, an orthopedist, a chiropractor, a neurologist, an acupuncturist, and a massage therapist. The original diagnosis was ischial bursitis but that ha not appeared on any images. I don't have any issues with any of my lumbar disks. I'm in constant pain even when standing or lying down though those activities do not hurt as much as sitting. Has anyone heard of anything like this before?

You have lived 82 years more than most. Congratulations! I also have pudendal neuralgia, all the same symptoms you have described. I’ve had 2 stimulators and they just weren’t working out for me so I had to take them out and now going in for a pain pump trial. The opioids cymbalta lyric a work to some degree but I can’t seem to regulate them anymore because I don’t want them so I take less then the pain compounds double then I take them more often so I’m sick and tired of them I want my life back my family and friends want me back I m in bed most days for hours. So today’s the day for the pain pump trial I hope it works. I’m 61 years young but feeling like I’m pushing daisy’s. Lol. I hope they dial the stimulator in for you. Good luck 👍.

Me too, 5 spine surgeries, fused L3-5, and s1 my sacroiliac joint on the right is fused...or was supposed to be. But it reversed after a year and a half doctor didn't know WHaT to do. My Vit D was gone, my thyroid slowed down, my testosterone was at 25 . My body quit healing. Now I have sever spinal stenosis again but at L2,3 and I don't ant anymore fusions. I discovered Dr Cantor on YouTube. He's doing ultrasonic scalpel surgeries. My insurance doesn't want to pay. I have a Nevco spinal stimulator that helps. I'm on morphine sulfate 30mgER and oxycodone for pain. Not enough anymore. Taking symporic so I can bm..and Metamucil to help..been dealing with this most of my life. Got hit by car when 8yrs old and was suppose to die...but didn't.
I'm so tired...now insurance won't pay for morphine... so tired 😫
Oh,... I had 2 knee surgeries many years ago and now need knee replacement... if I can get my Vit D and hormones fixed I might have a chance...I didn't even go into the 8x I had pneumonia and in ICU for a week......grrr...😒😥

I was on the Cymbalta for 2 months. I did not have trouble coming off of it, some trouble on it. I was on the Lyrica for 8 months.
I am currently on a low dose of Cymbalta, 30mg for 4 months. My doctor wants to raise it to the 60 mg. I am not on Lyrica. I wanted to try to fix the nerve pain but am headed towards medication as well. The pain levels get way beyond my tolerance at times. I am going to the pain management group.

Wasn't sure which one of you to reply to as it sends that there are quite a few of us with a pain in the a@@. I describe it like it feels as if I were sitting on a boulder. But it hurts whether sitting, lying down, standing or walking. And wrapped around the hip into the pelvis. An ortho diagnosed a hamstring tear, which was confirmed by an MRI. A cortisone shot was administered, such helped for 4 days.

For reference, I am a 68-year-old woman who has had 14 ortho surgeries so I did not tear this doing extreme sports! 🙂

A second opinion confirmed hamstring tear but suspected there was also a spine component, which was confirmed by MRI. After a 4-level laminectomy on "as bad a spine as the neurosurgeon had seen", the surgical pain and subsequent god awful nerve pain in my legs masked the hamstring issue.

However, 7 months later the initial "sitting on a rock" pain is back, but now is bilateral. And more back pain than pre-surgery.

The surgeon shrugs his shoulder, PM doc tells me I'm stupid for having had the surgery and there's nothing he can (or is it will?) do. MAYO won't see me with out-of- network insurance.

Can anyone else provide clarity or have any viable suggestions for us?

Sorry for your pain. Similarly, I experience pain throughout the region including rectal, coccygeal and buttocks. There seem to be multiple causes. Removal of a polyp discovered during a colonoscopy helped a bit, but nerve damage seems probable, either the result of a fall or radiation prostate treatment. My Pain Management physician suggests “Hypogastric Plexus Block procedure.” Best Wishes

I had a similar case and it was miserable. It felt like sitting on a bag of rocks. What helped me was doing the stretches on the PBS program, “Classical Stretch.”

I am sure I will get slammed for this comment
I take prednisone 10mg every day.
I do not feel much pain. I can get rid of pain entirely if I up to 20.
I don't know if I will get much damage from this drug..some don't
I am 76 years old with active mind
I really don't care, doing great until I don't

I have pelvic pain including the rectal area, penis, spincters and perinium area. I believe it is ultra sensitivity of the pudendal nerve. I am going to pain management and they do pudendal nerve blocks. What is the difference between the pudendal nerve block and the hypogastric plexus block. My block that is recommended is for a similar area. I guess yours is geared towards the gastric system?

I have had lumbar spinal stenosis for over 10-years. I've had numerous epidural steroid injections, acupuncture, physical therapy, an interspinous spacer inserted, a MILD procedure, and now have the SPRINT PNS SYSTEM for 60-days. It has reduced my pain levels some, but now I have severe sciatica running down my butt and leg - the pain is horrific, I can't sit, stand or walk. I've tried ice, heat, numerous pain relief creams and nothing is helping.
I truly don't know where to go from here or what to do. I can't stay in bed for the rest of my life ....Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I go see a Neurosurgeon?

I had a pudendal nerve block - terrible pain for the first couple of weeks, then pain went to a lower level. Unfortunately still more painful than before I had the block. Where do you go for treatment?
I went to pain doc at Mayo.
