Gut Biome and Immune system

Posted by harrynsc @harrynsc, Oct 28, 2023

There has been a lot written in the past decade about how we
have millions of bacteria living in our gut that form/contribute
to our immune system.
We know that antibiotics kill bacteria, both good and bad.
I don't know how long it takes to restore our gut bacteria to
normal levels; let's say a week or two. Maybe a month.
So it seems to me that if one is on the "big three" for a year or
two continuously, then all the good bacteria are killed and
our immune system is weakened.
So the question is has any research been done on this?
For people on the big three, does it seem like you get more
colds, etc.??

Found this: how long it takes for good bacteria to restore after antibiotics varies from person to person. For most people, the composition of the gut microbiome returns almost completely to baseline in one to two months. But for a few, things may not go back to the way they were for quite a long period of time.

I know that for me it has taken a very very long time. I think it depends on the person. There is a pro biotic called Visbiome that is quite powerful and formulated for those who have been on antibiotics. But diet is really important too.

Is Visbiome prescription?
Do you have any auto immune issues? On the fence with controlled UC and other issues on the fence…Bronchiectasis with tree in bud nodules, suspicious for MAC culture pending

I have been taking Visbione for years and swear by it. A UCLA GI expert (top in his field) recommended it. It is one of the strongest probiotics on the market and is an excellent product. https://www.visbiome.com/

I think they have a very strong version that is prescription but the regular formula is not. Even the regular formula is very strong. I have had life long GI issues. I suspect auto immune but never diagnosed.

Hi Scoop! I buy directly from Visbiome. This is the exact product I purchase: https://www.visbiome.com/collections/all/products/visbiome-capsules-2-pack?variant=25325572681
Another probiotic recommended by UCLA is a less potent, less expensive option: Culturelle: https://culturelle.com/.
I opt for Visbiome due to having lost my colon back in 2000 and keeping my GI flora in check is of the ultimate importance. Visbiome is expensive but worth it for me. It has been tremendously helpful.

An interesting note: According to Chinese medicine, the lungs are the sister organ to the colon. That being said, in my opinion, GI health is especially important for those of us with lung issues.

They stock visbiome at some Costco's. It is almost half the price than anywhere and you take it with you. So you don't have to worry about weather. Living in Florida heat, it's tricky with with cold pack shipping.

Visbiome is shipped and stored under refrigerated conditions (36-46°F, 2-8°C) with a temperature card to ensure maximum potency. The card is color coded so you know if the product fell under the required temperature. Also, I just read that Visbiome is stable at room temperature for up to one week without affecting potency.

I know. I should have added that I've purchased from the company and had no problems. But, with the extreme heat this summer, I called Visbiome and asked about heat and shipping. She told me to go to Costco. She also knew my Costco had stock, and the price was much lower. I agree. It's a wonderful product.
