I wanted to try desperately but we live in Florida. It is not legal here yet. I don't know how to get some. I know lots people here use but I have no source. I don't know why. May be because I don't look like the type. I am not worry about addiction. I think I am not the type.

My connection name is Fifi. I have narrowed space between C5-C6, perhaps a little in C1 too. I also have TMJ and some fibromyalgia. I don't think my nerve is pinched in the neck but I have chronic headache travel from left shoulder thru the neck to the bottom of my head. Sometime, my ear and eye also hurt on the left side. I have tried everything over the years- acupuncture, steroid injections, facet injection, Botox, physical therapy, and chiropratic. Nothing really helps too much. I went to Chiro who manipulate your neck last year. It helped but I was worried about stroke possibility. I quit for a while but went back this year. It's not working anymore and cause more pain. The reason I went back because the headache got worse and I can't worry about stroke anymore. I am getting more desperate. I take low dosage doxepin every night and Valium occasionally. I also take hydrocodone when the pain is really bad. I don't like medication and very sensitive to most of other med. I am thinking about disc replacement. Any one can recommend where to go and what dr. To see? Thank you

@vickiekay, what is prolotherapy? Would it help with migraine aggravated by neck issues and TMD (jaw problems.)

Good Day, I am happy to join a group with the Mayo Clinic. I have used the site to help educate me along with visits with my physicians for many years. I have never joined a group on line and look forward to learning more what I may be able to do for myself as well as help others. I have been experiencing Chronic pain for about four years now and have effectively helped myself to some degree with life style changes. I am avoiding using pain management using opioids as long as I can. However, the anxiety I endure seems to be key to control as much as possible. Currently, I am practicing box breathing, prayer and meditation to calm it. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you for your time.

@helloshelly7969! I have anxiety too; it is a comorbid condition to chronic pain. Talk to your doctor about anyi-anxiety meds such as xanax, ativan, klonapin. The non-addicting buspar is also available. I had to try a few before settling on klonapin. The thing to remember is not to take narcotics at the same time as anti-anxiety meds. That can be very dangerous. It is best to space them out or have a regular schedule. Your doctor may want you to see a psychiatrist to prescribe the meds. It is not counseling, just med prescribing. Controlling anxiety and depression, I find, lessens my chronic pain. Acupuncture may also be helpful. Good luck to you. We care.

Hi @helloshelly7969, and welcome to Connect! We're so happy that joined this online community and look forward to getting to know you better. I'm glad to hear that you're managing your pain and have found remedies and treatments that work well. I'd like to introduce you to several members who also talk about using meditation as a treatment for chronic pain. Please meet @evoglider, @soitis4590, @jay_baruch, @19lin and @niazumbanut. I'd also like you to meet two Connect mentors, @dawn_giacabazi and @johnwburns.

@helloshelly7969, is there one particular area that you experience pain in more than others? There are several discussions happening within the Chronic Pain group, which can be found here: http://mayocl.in/2cBiRN5. I'd like to learn a bit more about you before directing you to a specific thread.

Thank you for your reply and information. Currently, I am using Valuim at night, as my pain seems to worsen after sunset and interrupts my sleep. I get about four hours of uninterrupted sleep using it and wearing my wrist splints. However, am looking into a splint for my thumbs to wear while sleeping as they are waking me now too. My shoulders wake me too and have not figured out how to prevent it. I will ask my Rheumotologist about the drugs you mentioned. Luckily I have an appointment on Monday. Thanks again and have a great day.

@helloshelly7969 ... I have had chronic pain from Crohn's disease and from arthritis in my hip (being replaced in December). I cannot take OTC medication except for Tylenol, and that doesn't really help with the inflammation or pain for me well. I'm currently taking Tramadol, PRN *only*, as the hip pain has gotten bad lately. I also take Gabapentin, and that helps *me* with both the pain (some) and with my anxiety issues. Meditation is also a great idea. I did take Cymbalta for a while, but side effects stopped me, and it was quite helpful for my pain. Hoping you find some relief.

Does heat help your pain? ThermaCare makes pads for nearly every body part, and includes shoulders and hands/fingers. The heat lasts for 12 hours. Unfortunately, they are not reusable or covered by insurance. They run about $4/pad, so daily use adds up.

Thank you for your reply and introduction to others! My main particular area of pain is my neck. Holding my head up and dealing with fatigue and weakness are my focus and staying hydrated. I have even diagnosed so far with RA, OA, peripheral Neuropathy, tendonitis, IBS, Glaucoma, Dry Eyes, Hypertension, fast heart rate and chronic anxiety. Wow, that reads lengthy, sorry not used to sharing. Thanks again and have a great day?
